I LOVE THIS MOVIE!
Sat what you want. It's one of my favourites. I've never posted about this film before, but love it!

shareI liked it when I saw it, but retrospectively I don't. The reason is that it's a great concept of time travel and it's completely ruining by the terrible script with a serial killer and such. Had they stuck to the time travel aspect and created an indepth thoughtful script based on that it could have been a classic. Unfortunate they got lazy and just said f--k it, just throw in a serial killer and we'll make a bundle.
shareWhat would be the conflict though? Trying to get his dad to quit smoking? Take out the serial killer and you basically would have The Butterfly Effect where he gets his dad to change some stuff, and the rest of the movie they have to deal with the various effects the timeline changes cause.
shareUgh, don't mention Butterfly Effect: worst film I ever saw..guess we kind of agree on that one. But back to Frequency: I loved the concept of communicating via the ham radio from 1969 to 1999. They started the film in a good direction. Yes, the son saving the father's life with information is already part of it, but by indepth and thoughful, I mean develop it. Deeper dialogue. What would you tell/ask your son/father in that circumstance? The dialogue between them could have said so much more, rather than, "we'll have cell phones and the Mets will win the series". Again the serial killer element totally blew it for me. As a writer I should write a script like this. I'm sure I could do much better!
shareYeah they should've discussed quantum physics and philosophy.
What do you think a cop and a fireman would discuss? They're regular blue collar baseball loving hotdog munching Joes.
You just brought up an interesting point: why after all this didn't they let anyone know about it? I mean the most incredible discovery possibly ever, and at the end they play baseball instead of get interviewed by the world's top scientists. But at least Gordo made some money from Yahoo stock. And why didn't John at the very least tape record the conversations? So you need to admit this was not a sci-fi film, it was a father-son serial killer cash in.
Pathetic.
And yet much-loved and highly rated.
People would've thought them insane if they told anyone, so they didn't.
Besides, the positives definitely outweigh any negatives. It's an effective thriller, builds the tension perfectly. Good characters and acting.
