Really, how BAD could it be?
I've never seen this movie but how bad could it really be? What is so bad about it?
shareI've never seen this movie but how bad could it really be? What is so bad about it?
shareYour question is better asked as "What (if anything) is GOOD about this movie?" Unfortunately, the sad answer to this is _absolutely nothing._
It can hardly be overemphasized how bad this movie is. To put things in perspective, based on an analysis of cost of movie vs how good the movie is, this is _EASILY_ the worst film of all time---it's that awful. Even when compared to other bad films and not taking the investment in this monster into account, it's still pretty hard not to say that this is the Worst Film of the 20th Century.
This film actually makes Manos: The Hands of Fate look like Oscar material. It is so gut-retchingly bad that it makes Gigli seem divinely inspired.
Do yourself a favor and forget that you even heard about this movie. The faster it is forgotten, the better for all humanity.
I just attempted to watch this movie for the first time today. It is by far the biggest piece of garbage I have ever seen in my life, and that's saying a lot. The acting was atrocious, especially from Travolta, not to mention how seriously it tried to take itself. I thought after watching him in Swordfish that that was his worst performance ever but sadly I was mistaken. I made it about 45 minutes into it before I finally succumbed and turned it off. You could find water boiling or going to the dentist more enjoyable than this putrid, reeking pile of crap. Stay away and NEVER hope you hear the name again Battlefield Earth. I don't think I will ever be the same after subjecting myself to such torture. If I could give it a negative rating, I would...1/10
shareHaha, now I wanna watch Manos: The Hands of Fate. Whatever it is.

Please put some dashes above your sig line so I won't think it's part of your dumb post.
How bad could it be?
Take the worst film you've ever seen and multiple its crappyness by three. It looks like some high school kids broke into a hollywood studio and decided to make a film on the spot, with no forethought and no regard for quality.
This train wreck is an absolute disgrace to the film career of the supremely talented Forrest Whitaker, and even Mr. Travolta, whose career has been full of massive bombs, should hang his head in shame for spearheading the production of this shoddy piece of cinema.
As the above poster stated, this film deserves a negative rating.
I'm not one to give every bad movie 1 star but this movie truly deserves it. Hell, even a star is giving it way too much credit.
I'm sure this is bad in it's original form, but I watched it during a long bus trip in Japan , in Japanese, a language I don't understand. Talk about bad. If it hadn't been night time and dark in the bus I would have either read a book or stared out the window.
sharei had the misfortune of seeing this in the theatre and i had to say it was one of the longest, most gut-wrenchingly horrible few hours of my life. especially since i went with a group and couldn't leave early.
Haha... I went to see it in the theatres as well, and paid fot two admissions, as I took my girlfriend with me, and that's why I did not leave early, or I was have left about 30 minutes in. It was the second week the movie was released, and there was a total of 9 people in the theatre.
shareOhhhh no man. If it was that bad for you, how did your girlfriend feel? Did you have to grovel for forgiveness for weeks?
shareMan you suffered Bad! Thanks for the laugh!
shareIt's probably better when you are high.
shareI have never seen the film so I can't say if it's good or bad. However, I must ask: Is the movie bad because it's Sci-fi and people just don't get or understand Sci-fi? Or do people have way too much trouble believing that aliens from another planets are stronger and smarter than humans? If this is the case, then these are really bad reasons. If aliens from outer space do exist, is it really hard to believe that they could overpower humans? No, I would expect them to overpower us easily. Just because something is Sci-fi doesn't mean it can't be good or great. Or is it something else that makes this movie bad?
shareIf you were a monkey with a camera you would be making a better film.

You have to see this film and you will be sorry for whatever you wrote.
Srsly, nobody has trouble imagining that aliens could be stronger than us. Nobody has a problem with scifi.
People have a problem with what the NC calls "Jamaican Klingon clowns" who are dumb as toast conquering us when they seem like they couldn't tie their shoes without help.
What makes the movie bad is that EVERYTHING ABOUT IT IS BAD. Every last thing. I'm not talking about scifi, I'm talking about basic moviemaking.
Battlefield Mirth!
This is one of those movies that is soooo baaaaddd that that it is almost good. Good fodder for people to ridicule that is. I wish "Mystery Science Theater 3000" was still on the air I know they'd roast this movie real good.
The entire armies of the human race were wiped out in 9 minutes according to Terl (John Travolta) after he took slave Johnnie to the Denver public library to read about Earth's history. Now, never mind every paper book would be dust after 1000 years and all electronic media devices corroded beyond repair, not to mention the stoutest buildings would be mere foundations after 1000 years of neglect(if that). This movie is bad for all the reasons everyone has cited and more. If it is true to the book Hubbard wasn't a very good Sci-fi writer. If a teleporter could transmit dangerous materials that acted VERY adversely with your atmosphere would you have a teleporter in open atmosphere? No. You probably wouldn't even have it on your home world an orbital platform or near by moon would be the logical choice. I can't believe the Psychlo's could conquer space without being able to control the interaction between their "Breathe Gas" and common nuclear radiation.
Another thing to remember about the slave resistance army is that they were born and raised in areas that were still too radioactive for Psychlos to enter 1000 years after mankind's fall I doubt they would be in very good physical or mental shape after generations of chronic radiation exposure . Also the vehicles and weapons they found would no longer function after 1000 years in storage jet fuel degrades in a matter of months in a few years that same jet fuel would be sludge and in 1000 years it would be dry sludge.
"This is one of those movies that is soooo baaaaddd that that it is almost good."
No, not even that. -_-
I've seen bad movies that were so bad they were "good". But this wasn't one of them. It isn't even Mystery Science Theater 3000 material. This movie should just be burned and buried and never spoke of again.
actually the creators of Mystery Science Theater 3000 did riff Battlefield Earth
under the "rifftrax" commentary... pretty funny

"The Movie sucks so bad. Avoid at all costs!!!! The book though was great."
neil gaiman lists it as a guilty pleasure too. i might check it out.
second-hand, of course. i don't want any of my money going to scientology if i can help it.
This makes Troll 2 look like a masterpiece...
shareI read the book and I actually like it! Which is why I went to see it in the Theater at the time, and let me tell you, the Movie and the Book are almost completely different. The Movie sucks so bad. Avoid at all costs!!!! The book though was great. it's a large paperback, so a lot would have to be cut out for a Movie. It wasn't only that, but the complete B.S. Ending was completely different! There was no planes/Jets flying in the book. Read the book and forget the movie!
Sci Fi Debris sez that he thinks they put the planes in because of "Independence Day" which seems plausible
