Is Manuela a lesbian?

Hi! I'm writing a paper for my Spanish Cinema class and, after having watched the movie three times this week, I got the feeling that Manuela and the blonde from the beginning were maybe more than friends (particularly when Manuela shouts at her in the kitchen). Did anyone catch that? Or was it just me?

Thanks,
Angie

Why do people look for sexual things in non-sexual intimacy? I noticed that this isn't a problem for Latinos and Southern Europeans on this board to understand but it seems like Americans and can't grasp it. Manuela and her boss are just friends. Manuela became a surrogate mother to Rosa. She was also friends with Huma. If there was explicit sexuality there, believe me, Almodovar would've showed it or made it obvious.

It's strange to me just how people can't understand the type of intimacy people in Latin based countries share with one another.

I doubt it, although the film shows an emotional closeness between and among women. It wouldn't make sense within the framework of the film, with all the sexual-identity craziness going on around. She was MOTHER, whose sexuality was deep in the background.

It was just you! I believe it's just a culture thing.
The movie is about friendship between women. One example would be when she sees Agrado for the first time after 20 years, they acted like time has not done anything to their friendship. Something that i like was the way they kiss each other in the mouth like nothing, no barriers just friendship.
hope it makes sense.

I may have this completely wrong, and I did miss the first five minutes, but weren't all the characters in it sort of bi sexual? Like I'm pretty sure even the (straight looking) actor who wants a bj from Agrado claims he'd do it to a guy if he had to.

One of the themes of the movie, that I picked up at least, was that all people, some more than others, identify with both genders..? And therefore it's shown through all the characters being, to different lengths, bi sexual.

Considering the number of fairies and other kinds of deviants running loose in the film, that´d hardly be surprising.
