In the movie we see Andrew gaining a personal income selling his handmade clocks. Somehow this results in him earning more in a month than a CEO of a huge robot making company does in a year.
How would this ever be possible?
Remember in the speech at the end he mentions one of the politicians has an artificial kidney that Andrew designed, so at some point he spread out beyond clocks.
shareYes at that point in the movie it makes total sense that he has a ton of money, but the part I mentioned is way, way, way before he gets into that.
shareI always just assumed that he was fast and efficient at making clocks (faster than any human), so he could make a lot of them in a very short time, and thanks to the glory of technology, he had an outlet to sell a lot of them.
shareI suspect that in the fancy, slick, mass-produced future world of the movie, elaborate, handmade, one-of-a-kind pieces of fine craftsmanship command a hefty premium. They're not products. They're art. Probably also status symbols.

shareYeah like others have said Andrew most likely worked very fast so combine that with Sir's money and all the rich friends and experience to help put these clocks out on the market and promote it so it would sell and yeah.. Makes sense to me that he'd be rich.
shareIn the book, after he obtained an android body he started to design/manufacture organs to make himself more human. These organs were also marketed to humans as replacements for their own failed body parts. This made him rich.
