There are so many "whys" to ask about this show regarding things that don't make sense. The Family Guy universe is completely nonsensical, regularly playing fast and loose with reality & even sometimes ignoring its own continuity. Lois is married to Peter because she's written to be. Logic need not apply.

I always thought that was part of the joke, that a good looking woman would be with that fat ass. It’s a comedy trope like Fred and Wilma, homer and marge, the honeymooners etc. It also doesn’t hurt that these shows are written by men, it’s a male fantasy that even the most unattractive men can get a hot chick for a wife.
