What disease is Thrax?

Okay I am a HUGE Osmosis Jones fan and for the 4 years I have loved it I have always wondered "What disease is Thrax?" I have researched on the web and there's no disease called the Red Death. I did for a moment think he was Anthrax but he didn't match it's description. Anthrax does raise your tempature but you get it from Infected Animal Skins and you get a horrible skin mark. So does anyone have any information?
Thrax is my favourite character and I would be very grateful if someone could answer my question

reply

Possibly Scarlet Fever, which incidentally could be used as a character name in itself for a female virus in a similar film.

Jessie-mc, I have a nagging feeling I've seen your name somewhere before. Do you have an account at either deviantART or fanfiction.net? Or maybe Fanart Central?

You're a girl. Or maybe a wagon thats filled up with pancakes.

reply

Yeah but winkipedia lies a lot. It's an open sit. You can submit anything you want which is why I dont use it for projects.

I learned all I know from wikipedia. And, in all modesty, I'm a genius.

Scarlet fever, although it's not very serious an illness.

reply

I read somewhere that it is Red Death, which is (I don't think) a real disease. It's mentioned in Edgar Allan Poe's The Masque of the Red Death.

reply

its tuberculosis (sp?), although i dont recall bill murrey ever coughing up blood. its just the old schoole slang term for it.
edgar mentions it a lot in his poems because it killed his wife.

I heard he was Antrax too, although a lot of they symptoms don't quite match. I think he's sort of a made-up illness.

reply

he's supposed to be antrax however they got creative because anthrax IS NOT a virus it is A BACTERIA. But yes he is anTHRAX

reply

it's not like his name is (an)Thrax or anything...but he could also be the Red Death, aka Edgar Allen Poe

"I will look on your treasures, gypsy. Is this understood?"

Thrax is a disease called Anthrax. It is a serious disease that usually affects animals. People working with sick animals or their products can suffer sores, swelling, fever, pneumonia, blood poisoning and death. Frank worked with animals at the Zoo, so that explains how he got it.

Thrax is a disease called Anthrax.

Can't be anthrax, anthrax is a bacteria, and this specifies that it is a virus. Although it's possible that the writers got this detail wrong.

reply

it could still be anthrax, remember that he's at the zoo with bob and eats that egg that falls in the animal's cage, so there's your infected animal skin for ya

I read about it being the Red Death on Wikipedia, too, but if you recall the article, as well as The Masque of the Red Death the Red Death's symptoms were sharp pains and bleeding out the pores. It also killed you in a half hour. He survived a for a long time.

I recall hearing him mentioned as being a pimped up version of the Hong Kong Chicken Flu.

Do you think kids would have liked this movie if they showed Bill Murray's face bleeding out? It's called "artistic license," geez.

i would say anthrax an-thrax. i think it makes sense

reply

Well what they talk about in the movie and what's in "Masque of the Red Death" is probably different. I don't know what Thrax is, but the Red Death everyone else is talking about is the bubonic plague, it's kinda of disguised in Poe's story. That was in the 1500s, so I doubt it's what they're talking about in this movie.

I thought that that was the point, that it hasn't been a big disease for a long time and thrax wanted to be in the spotlight again. Also the doctors didn't know what was going on, so I thought that maybe it was because they hadn't ever seen it.
Just what I was thinking while watching.

reply

There is no such thing.

Thrax is a made up disease for a movie, it probably represents nothing or a mixture of different diseases.

reply

I don't think he is a recognized disease, as when he is talking in the Kidney club or whatever, about the people that he has killed, he says that he's going to "Get his own chapter in the Medical book"
