Did Jamal miss those shots on purpose?
i think he did
shareOf course he did. Jamal had a little more dignity than everyone else and I think he couldn't live with that incident being swept under the rug and forgotten about.
shareThe way the director shot the sequence of events left little doubt that he did it on purpose. I always thought if done a little differently it would give the viewer more room to wonder.
" Three can keep a secret, if two are dead "
The better question is whether or not anyone other than William or Jamal knew that he missed those shots on purpose.
shareThat's not a soup question, is it?
shareI believe he did as well...and although, it doesn't prove it, there was that scene earlier in the movie where Jamal is shooting free throws as a punishment and sinks 50 in a row along with the other hot shot. I think that scene was put in the movie to set up the scene at Madison Square Garden for the Championship game. Missing 2 free throws for Jamal certainly wasn't impossible, just improbable.

Anybody who knows anything about basketball knows it's entirely possible for a player who can hit 50 free throws in a row in practice to brick two in a row in the final seconds of a tie game. Happens all the time.
The movie was on cable yesterday and I watched it again. IMO he did NOT miss on purpose.
