A brief reflection after re-watching Black Swan and then this


The desire for admiration, the journey toward some notable position in life, and how that journey often leads to misery . . . A constant theme in Aronofsky’s work.
Here, the Mother wants to be noticed, to be important, to be a ‘somebody’ as she puts it. The opposite of this desire is, of course, being worthless. But that’s not true. We all have worth, no matter how small or great. Striving toward an unattainable ideal—a dream of perfection—can be dangerous.
