Gladiator (2000) vs Braveheart (1995)

which is better?

Gladiator had the better resolve of having the villain get his comeuppance. In "Braveheart", all Longshanks received was the disappointment of not hearing Wallace cry for mercy which was nothing new to him even with the real version.

In Gladiator, Maximus brings an end to the tyranny of Commodus that took away Marcus Aurelius, his family, and the scores of others who were victims of his death games in the Colosseum.

Braveheart.
- no CGI
- much better battle scenes
- more believable plot
- did it first

Gladiator wouldn’t exist if not for Braveheart.

Gladiator is a really good movie. Braveheart is in the conversation for GOAT.

I love both, but I'll give the nod to Braveheart. Better music, story, and battle scenes imo.

Braveheart is more bold and experimental and has a better pace,it's more immersive and with a better OST (IMO)
Gladiator is a bit industrialed Hollywood epic ,really awesome but not better than Braveheart .Gladiator is the only movie of the genre that came close to Braveheart and that is an achievement.
Gladiator 9.5/10
Braveheart 11/10

Braveheart. It's not really close, either. I like the story more. The battle scenes are significantly better. The score is better. The acting is better. The pacing is better and the ending is better. As for the two leads, I think Gibson was a little better than Crowe, too. And it's better directed. Gibson did a magnificent job.

They are both awesome and I don't think one can compare the two since they are set in different time periods and locations. I can't pick a favorite. It's like choosing between Tawny Kitaen and Pam Anderson. At their peak, they both were the hottest babes on the planet.

I could see possibly comparing Gladiator to Spartacus. My late father told me that he didn't need to see Gladiator since he had watched Spartacus. I could see comparing Braveheart to similar movies like El Cid or Robin Hood.
