We need a movie about a man with depression

I know there was "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest", although I don't think Randall McMurphy had depression. There was also "Mr Jones" with Richard Gere. But someone should make a movie and/or a novel about men and depression.

Punch Drunk Love - Barry is suffering from a mental illness and depression

Spider - The main character suffers from a mental illness and recently was released from a mental institution.

Thirteen - Teenage girl is a self-harmer and depressed.

Manic - Teenage boy is in a mental institution for being violent and he's depressed.

Documentaries
Boy Interrupted: About filmmaker Dana Perry and her husband's 15 year old son who suffered from Bipolar Disorder and committed suicide (on Youtube, HBO documentary film)

Seed: A middle aged man interviews people about the meaning of life because he's depressed and suicidal.

The Bridge: A film about a year's worth of suicides on the Golden Gate Bridge.

One should be out, however most mentally ill male characters are violent, evil sociopaths.

Problem is, what actor would be willing to shed tears and bare his soul? A lot of them I believe are too concerned with being observed as masculine.

My posts make a lot more sense if you imagine them with my Australian accent

I think there are many male actors willing to give it a go. I agree - there needs to be a SERIOUS role of a man and depression. I could see Leonardo DiCapria in this role.

It would be gritty, but I'm a screenwriter and I would envision Girl, Interrupted and American Beauty for inspiration. However I have 3 projects I'm juggling right now...

Shutter Island.

"I was Special Forces. I used to eat classified for breakfast!"

What about "What Dreams May Come?" Very poignant and touching movie about depression. I don't want to throw out the plot because you can't really mention anything without giving something critical away...

Also,in "When a Man Loves a Woman," what about Garcia's role in his wife's alcoholism, he definitely hits some low points during the film - again, very well presented - and Meg Ryan actually hits the mark (for once) in her portrayal of her character's addiction

Being happy is like peeing yourself, everyone sees it - but only you feel the warmth!

On The Edge (2001) by John Carney, stars Cillian Murphy

Definitely Ordinary People! (1980)

Sideways is a good example of not typical sad film dealing with depression but uses comedy to show how miserable the main character is. Great film.
