Why lie to Dr Grant about their kid???

okay this movie is dumb, but the dumbest oversight in the writing is when william h macy and tea leone are pretending to be, like, eccentric thrill-seekers to lure dr grant in. why the fuck would that work??? wouldn't it make more sense for them to explain the situation to grant right off the bat? that way they could get his sympathy? saying "please help us find our son!" is a waaay more convincing reason then "we wanna go skydiving". makes no damn sense. they could still pay him to find their son too. i just dont get it.

Although, that would mean he needs to consider beforehand to actually set foot on the island. He only grudgingly accepted just flying over the island for the cash. Also he would probably assume the boy must surely have perished already, having been stranded on dino island for several weeks

It would have been better if the parents reached out to Grant and asked him for help out of desperation because no one else would help them. Then, Grant begrudgingly agrees to go out of the goodness of his heart.

The parents had reached out to various people before Grant, explaining their situation. And everyone refused. They assumed Grant would respond the way everyone else had responded. So they resorted to trickery
