This was much better than 'The Lost World'

I've been watching the original trilogy over the past few days.
The first film is obviously the best and will never be topped.

But as far as the sequels go, #3 was definitely superior in almost every way to #2.

The acting in 3 was much better, the plot wasn't nearly as ridiculous as #2's plot. There was no token black kid who only spoke a few lines and served no point being in the film (This really annoyed me about The Lost World).

Other points worth mentioning:
-Cinematograhpy was better. The scenes of the island and environment were more impressive.
-Pterodactyls! (Those scenes were pretty cool)
-Sam Neill > Jeff Goldblum
-No ridiculous mercenary looking guys trying to capture dinosaurs in G.I. joe type vehicles.
-No ridiculous scenes of dinosaurs rampaging through a city.
-No driving arouind in a convertible with a hostage baby dinosaur.

Ha,Ha,Ha,Ha. Good joke, very funny.

The biggest joke of all was watching Jeff Goldblum driving his red convertible with a hostage baby t-rex in the back. One of the most embarassing moments of Spielberg's entire career!

And yet that better than Sam Neil and a talking raptor on a plane. Spielberg at his most embarrassing is still better than anything in Jurassic Park 3.

That was a dream sequence right? The baby T. rex hostage scene actually happened in JP2, so not sure why you would compare them.

I agree with the OP though, the 3rd is much more watchable than the 2nd. The characters aren't nearly as annoying, no snotty teenage kid is trying to sound hip by using phrases nobody else does, the runtime isn't padded with an ending seemingly from an entirely different movie, Sam Neill is great in it, and the pacing is pretty solid.

Lost world is all over the place, with a ham fisted message and some truly awful characters and acting.

It was still a sequence in the film. So you can compare them.

Good for you. I think differently.

No one is as annoying as Jungle Boy and his parents.

Lost world is all over the place, with a ham fisted message

Lost World had a plot that made sense, Jurassic Park 3 did not have even that.

LOLNO!!!!!!!!!!!!
Tea Leoni made this movie unbearable!
The characters were a lot better in TLW. They were so one dimensional, had no depth and were one tracked in this movie!
I don't know what was a worse movie. This, or Jurassic World.

Jurassic World was a least fun, Jurassic Park 3 is horrible.

I agree. They both definitely have their flaws, but this one is definitely slightly better. As for III, sure the talking raptor was dumb, but it was a dream, so it doesn't matter. It could have been dressed in a clown suit and still not be as dumb as some of the *beep* in LW. The sat phone ringing inside the dinosaur was dumb as hell too, but at least it added a little suspense whenever you heard it ringing. And Tea Leoni's character was pretty bad, probably the worst in the franchise. But she wasn't that much worse than Julianne Moore's or Vince Vaughn's characters in LW.

Lost World was much worse. In addition to the idiocy of those two characters was, of course, the gymnastics scene (worst in the franchise), the Jeff Goldblum vs Raptor obstacle course scene, everything involving the baby T-Rex. Watching T-Rex's look through windows for two hours (fun). And the whole entire disaster that was the San Diego sequence as the cherry on top. It was terrible.

Totally agree. Lol I don't feel like going through a complete analysis of the two movies so I'll summarize it as :
Jurassic Park 3 is much more entertaining to me that 2. It has a much greater replay value where as 2 I watch rarely and when I do I skip through nearly all of the annoying/uninteresting characters and straight to the few cool dinosaur scene
TLW could have been cool but :
-The characters were boring + unsympathetic to me
-The writing isn't as good as the first (but neither is the third and I'll get back to this later)
-I didn't feel suspense when any of the characters were in peril (either because I didn't care about them or knew they'd get out of the situation-similar problem with JW)
-The SD sequence is just..... They should've stayed on the island longer lol I'll just say that
-The tone of the film is so bleak. I prefer a dark tone to a campy tone but this tone was so bleak it felt almost depressing and uninteresting lol

Now what I think works in JP3:
First let me say I don't view this in comparison to JP because it's nowhere close, I view it as a fun B movie dinosaur flick.
1) the characters -although problematic I didn't mind them and grant is a better lead than Malcolm I believe (the kirbys dumbasses even grew on me a little)
2) There are a lot of great action scenes in the film I think - some are nonsensical but at the same time when I view it as a B movie it's okay. I love the pterodactyl scene, the velociraptor chase in the building is cool too along with the end boat attack.
3) Now back to what I said about the writing. A lot more thought went into TLW's script and I DVD k that's where they messed up- the writers gag such grand ideas and over thought themselves that the movie itself felt kindve jumbled (IMO) and although the story makes sense it's overall uninteresting. JP 3's writing is nonsensical and I'm even laughing thinking about some of the stupid thing that don't make sense in this movie ("How is there not military surrounding this island first of all?") but AGAIN when I watch it with the correct mind set- it's easy to overlook the writing flaws and enjoy it ! Whereas I'm just bored with TLW at least in JP when the characters weren't in peril you were still invested in the story and in TLW that isn't the case and in JP3 they know they can't do it either so instead they just rush to the cool action scenes.

Lol I said I wouldn't analyze the films and I ended up doing it anyways. Over all in my opinion: Jurassic Park 3 is the better more entertaining and rewatch able film

It is a tale told by an idiot, full of sound and fury, signifying nothing .

The third was an abortion from start to finish. 2 was good up until the raptor scene. The city scene didn't belong in that film but it was better than anything in three

reply

Totally agree, 'The Lost World' was the only truly annoying movie of the series.

Just watched Jurassic Park III for the first time, much more entertaining than I had expected. Not a 'masterpiece' of course, but great for a Saturday evening with some drinks :-) I think that 1, 3 and 4 are all great for brainless fun, but 2 (The Lost World) is even annoying when semi-drunk :-)

reply

Just watched 2 and 3 back to back and definitely enjoyed 3 more. The plot was silly in part 2 and the T Rex running around the city (thousands of miles away from the island) was just stupid. Part 3 at least had better action scenes and a better story; it was also short and to the point so I enjoyed it more

reply

I think this one is the best of the 4 (so far) movies. I just watched all 3 in a theater, and 3 was the most enjoyable, hands down.

reply

3 is actually the first one in theaters I was old enough to see.
