Did anyone else think the plane crash scene was really intense?

From watching a lot of movies, I must say, the plane crash scene was INTENSE...and actually pretty eerie. Probably one of the most realistic plane crash scenes ever.

Definitely! Robert Zemeckis is one of my favorite directors and this scene really shows his talent in cinematography.

Agreed

Yes, it is really quite confronting, and I think the well-made sound effects played a big part in making it feel more real.

Yes, it’s definitely one of the best plane crashes in cinematic history for sure. The moment where Hanks can see the ocean surface rapidly approaching through flashes of lightning is haunting, but I think what absolutely sells the scene is it’s brilliant sound design.

Its a great scene with up-to-the-minute year-2000 effects but/and...

...Alfred Hitchcock delivered a plane crash-into-the-sea sequence with its own wallop(including the ocean surface approaching) a walloping 60 years earlier in 1940's Foreign Correspondent. No way it "matches" Cast Away for modern effects, but it is pretty damn exciting on 1940 terms. Try it on YouTube...

Some things do not make sense.

Particularly, even after the plane crashes down, the wings rupture, there is fire. He takes some time to get out. And when he does get out, the ENGINES ARE STILL SPOOLING fast!

In a real accident, the wings break, the tanks are damaged and the fuel lines break down. So the engines would not be turning at the speed they were before the crash. They would be SPOOLING DOWN!

As a matter of fact, they may be torn from the wing as it would be among the first things to contact the water.

But this is Hollywood, thus, LETS IGNORE REALITY!
