How did Sly know who it was (the killer), when he looked at the burning match pack with "Donovan's" inscribed on it? I don't get it. The mouthy dude at that party in the beginning sorta looked like the killer, whose name I can't remember. But that same mouthpiece was killed shortly afterwards in his house after the party.

"Donovan's" was inscribed on the matchbook. "Donovan's" is the name of the restaurant that the cops are shown frequenting at the beginning of the film. Stallone sees the matchbook and puts two and two together, that the killer had been there, observing them.
