THIS MOVIE SCARRED ME

I mean good god people! This was the most disturbing movie I have ever seen! The whole thing was either scream-in-revulsion violent, cry-your-eyes-out depressing or turn-away-and-blush sexy! I begged my friends the whole time to turn it off, all the while she assured me that he lived at the end, so i agreed and continued to watch the agony. Then in that last scene when Inman shoots the bad guy (whatever his name is) then he coughs up blood I knew she had lied and I got out of there as fast as I could! OMG IT WAS TERRIBLE!

I dont see it half as violent and disturbing as many other movies.

It's a sad love story, true....but there are many movies with sad endings. The point is, they are true and show the ugliness of war.

Just in case you're interested, it's called the suprasternal notch.

I agree what Artemis_of_Ephesus its a war love story. You must not watch movies much at all. War is ugly and there are many and many of movies that show war and blood so much worst. Cold Mountain doesn't even come close. It's an artful and tragic film about how it was like in that area. Try watching Schindler's List.

That's the first time I've heard the word "sexy" mentioned in a negative sense.

I admit this movie was graphic during some scenes and had a rather sad ending...however it was by no means a terrible movie.

Cold Mountain is about love during the civil war. Of course there will be moments that are violent...I mean it's the civil war. There is no way getting around a movie being about that war, or any really, having violent scenes. Really though those moments were done rather well. The focus wasn't so much on the blood and guts part as it was more about the actual battles and what the people experienced. And yes the ending was a heartbreaker...there's nothing you can do about that. It's just how things went. There are so many great love stories that have sad endings. Really those endings make the movies a lot better in some instances than compared to if they had the fairytale happily ever after endings to them...Cold Mountain is just a beautiful movie was a great story. Nothing scary about it.

OP:

I'm not surprised. You like Twilight. Talk about disturbing. Disturbingly bad, written, acted, conceived, characterized, on and on and on.

You haven't seen much movies then I guess.

It's definitely, but in a tasteful way that conveys the movies messages (ie: the brutality of war, the evil in men's hearts, etc). It's one of the rare films that meshes violence with love and great storytelling all in such a wonderful way. great movie, great acting, just great stuff.

Emily, I am going to have to disagree with your original post. Cold Mountain is not a movie aiming to scar you or scare you. Like everyone else on here has been saying, it's a movie that shows the brutality of war and how if affects the people involved. And it's not just the soldiers who are involved. The families, loved ones, and friends they have left behind also play a key part in the story. It's not like a major character is dying in every single scene. That would be a little too brutal. War is ugly, but we cannot push the ugly stuff away because we don't like. We either face it or run from it. However, running from it does not solve anything.

Watch...... Cannibal Holocaust, requiem of a dream, Oldboy..

These movies are 100 times disturbing than this....

I fall asleep every times in this boring movie... and this is by the same genious as The English Patient ?

Every times I wake up, it's that old lady killing a lamb.. and it's on for around 20 minutes in the whole movie, truly overrated !

reply

Cold Mountain is a film I originally didn't want to see because it was directed by the director of The English Patient (one of the most awful and boring films ever made)... luckily I gave it a chance as it was fantastic.

honestly I think you are being a little bit ridiculous.
That's it. That's all I have to say. I don't think explaining why the movie was meant to be like that has any purpose since everything that had to be said about it has been said already. Except for my first sentence.

To the OP

Emily,

Have you seen the 2002 mini-series adaption of Doctor Zhivago? That has a similar tone of Cold Mountain and many similar themes, but is significantly darker and way more disturbing. If you watch that production, this will seem much lighter. But regardless, Cold Mountain is a bleak and realistic look at what happens to people during war, it's very unlike the cheerful happy ending films.

If this you think this movie was scary then you have some growing up to do. This was by far not even intended as scary, it is just how wars are. And the scene with jude coughing blood after getting shot was the best scene ever. His face was amazing, no foreshadowing of him being shot.

Geez man! I just saw the movie tonight, but I'm glad I saw it before I read your post... You should put up Spoiler Alerts the next time you write about the end of a movie!

btw, I also don't get where the turn-away-and-blush sexy was in the movie... ?
