Filming Location is All Wrong

This movie is supposed to be set in North Carolina but was filmed in Romania. As a Southerner, it was distractingly obvious that this was not filmed in the South. The hills were too big, the tree were wrong, and the light was wrong. The look of the geography competed with the story, lessening my belief in the story.

I'm sure they chose to film in Romania because of cost, but really, how much more expensive could it have been to film somewhere in the South. The cost-of-living and wages are low in the South and there is lots of available land.

Was anyone else bothered by this?

Bothers me. This nation has so many good locations why go to Eastern Europe to depict one of the unsettling pieces of American history.

People like the OP are 'tards.

If they hadn't shot in Romania, they would have ended shooting in Canada or something, and then people like the OP would still be complaining that "the geography was all wrong."

Yes, unfortunately, this is what happens when you have to shoot a certain location for different seasons. 'The Deer Hunter' is set in Pennsylvania, but was shot in Washington State. Do you see me griping about this vast difference in terrain? No.
