Honestly no better shark movie since

As far as shark movies go I really liked this one and I can fairly say there hasn't been a better one since.

reply

Ok so what have we got to work with. I'm just gonna disregard the intentionally ridiculous ones like Sharknado and Shost Shark.
Jaws, Jaws 2 and The Reef are good. The Meg was entertaining. In the deep, The shallows, 47 meters down and Open Water are decent. Bait is ok..

reply

I guess aside from Jaws and Jaws 2. This movie was pretty much just Jurassic Park with Sharks, I mean Thomas Jane was Muldoon, Samuel L Jackson was Gennero, that European bitch was Hammond, the guy who gets his arm bitten off was Wu

reply

DBS is better than Jaws 2.

reply

Uhhh no I'd rather watch Jaws 2, DBS might be better than Jaws 3D and Jaws: The Revenge

reply

Apart from inserting bunch of screaming teenagers and sailboats into the mix, Jaws 2 is basically just a reread of the first Jaws. It also suffers from pacing issues, a lack of interesting supporting characters aside from Brody, and at times takes itself a bit too seriously.

Deep Blue Sea is more straight-to-the-point and thrilling B-movie that’s just an all-round good time from start to finish - and it's rated higher on IMDb. Go figure!

reply

Deep Blue Sea had some of the worst CGI I have ever seen, annoying characters, stupid characters and it wasn't even that exciting. Jaws 2 while a far cry from the original is at least an entertaining way to kill 2 hours, you could definitely do a lot worse.

reply

Sure, some of the CG effects don't hold up too well (which is what’s to be expected, considering when this movie came out). But the movie makes use of incredible animatronics that make up most of the effects in the movie - the movements, texture, and designs are literally flawless.

Oh, and I’d take the “annoying characters” in DBS over the screaming teenagers in Jaws 2 any day.

reply

I completely disagree with you on all points but putting the crappy effects aside if the characters were the least bit likeable I would have been able to let it slide, but they weren't.

reply

My statement regarding the animatronic effects still holding up isn't an opinion, it's a statement of fact. If you can't see this, we'll just have to agree to disagree.

reply

Deflecting to bad special effects in other movies doesn't magically make the effects in DBS good.

reply

What the f*CK are you on about? I didn’t compare the FX to any other movies!

reply

No all you provided was your subjective opinion. It’s not a “statement of fact”, learn the difference little girl

reply

Ugh!
You don’t know what the f*ck you’re talking about. Come back when you’re sobered up you old drunk!

reply

I liked The Meg better than this

reply

The Meg is better. It has even more homages to Jaws than DBS.

The Shallows is better. The narrative is more concentrated and intense, and not nearly as stupid as DBS: 1 woman, 1 shark. No supershark. No bullshit pseudoscience. 1 woman, 1 shark.

reply

The Meg is decent, but could’ve benefited from more “edge”

The Shallows, while entertaining and very technically proficient, is overall just a run-of-the-mill survival movie we’ve seen a million times beforehand. And it doesn’t have a great deal of rewatch value either.

Deep Blue Sea, while not completely original, is much more unique by killer shark movie standards with more thrills, surprises, and overall rewatch value.
Plus, I appreciate the Jurassic Park homages as well as the Jaws nods.

reply

yeah this movie is super stupid but it's the best shark movie since jaws, and no shark movie has been better since. shame because the bar is fairly low. also, no big budget shark blockbuster has come out since this one, i dont think

reply

There was one big shark blockbuster since, that I can think of: The Meg.

But yeah, DBS is the best one since Jaws. It's a lot of fun. I enjoyed it enough that I bought it on Blu-Ray.

reply

oh duh, i forgot about the meg! yeah that movie is also really stupid, but this movie was better.

reply

JAWS is easily the best shark movie. Deep Blue Sea would probably be in my top 5. Another solid shark movie from the past few years is 47 Meters Down. It doesn’t have the strongest script, but it does tap into something primal. The Reef is another that ratchets up the fear.

JAWS remains at the top of the list for several reasons. It features well-realized characters we care about, a shark that takes on supernatural tones, an iconic score from John Williams, and sure-handed direction from Steven Spielberg. Oh, and it also taps into something truly primal.

I'm probably the only one on the planet or internet I should say that didn't really care for this movie at the time it came out, but to each's own.. Now, when I was at the video store earlier, I saw JAWS 2, The 45th Anniversary Edition and should've purchased that and it was on Blu Ray
