Was it dumb and unnecessary to retcon Bruce Wayne into being the genetic father of Terry McGinnis?

Did it strip away Terry's own initiative and agency to earning the role of Batman? Was it mainly done to give Bruce a happy ending?

Yes. Very dumb. In fact I don't consider it canon at all. It was only revealed in some weird 5min anthology thingy.
