This vs Say Anything

For me, hands down High Fidelity is the winner. I thought it was engaging and entertaining the whole way through.

Say Anything - when I got done with it, I was left with this feeling of Why do so many people like this?

Say Anything is the better movie - though I love High Fidelity. But Say Anything is a stone cold classic, one of the definitive youth movies of the 1980's.

I agree. I love both, but Say Anything's a classic. If for nothing else, for the writing and delivery of Lloyd's speech:

"I don't want to sell anything, buy anything, or process anything as a career. I don't want to sell anything bought or processed, or buy anything sold or processed, or process anything sold, bought, or processed, or repair anything sold, bought, or processed. You know, as a career, I don't want to do that."

High Fidelity is the better film in my opinion. Say Anything is a feel good teenage romantic comedy that never gets very deep. High Fidelity is about how stagnation affects relationships. Rob is a character with arrested development, who grows up, that is to say there is a character arc. Lloyd is a little too idealized, and doesn't really undergo as much of a character transformation. The writing in High Fidelity is much better, also the comedy of Jack Black is sublime.

Say Anything doesn't get very deep? Wow, I don't agree.

I find Crowe's screenplay for Say Anything to be brilliant. High Fidelity is one of the more overrated films of teh past 20 years, IMO.

Say Anything by a mile, High Fidelity is an overrated film,

I saw Say Anything super late. But, High Fidelity is one of my favorite movies, so it was unlikely to pass it anyway.

HF is a much better film, funnier and wiser. Good film overall, while I never liked SA.

In HF the hero learns a lot about himself and other people, and emerges a better man. In SA, the girl just transfers her extreme dependence from her father to her boyfriend.

I have to agree on Say Anything, I like it but I don't quite the love in that film has gotten within the film circle. I think The Sure Thing is a far better early Cusack romantic film imo. But yeah High Fidelity is one of those rare adaptions that work. The move from London to Chicago doesn't hurt the film at all. The Music from the film is fantastic. Jack Black is at his best when he's not front and center. Tim Robbin's delivers one of his best performances. Also great to see Joan Cusack, Lili Taylor and Lisa Bonet (her daughter Zoe looks the splitting image of her) in a film. I thought Iben Hjejle (to see her at her very best watch Dogma 95 film Mifune, she's awesome in that) as Laura didn't warm to me at first but over the years her performance strikes home to me more. John Cusack is great (probably his best performance) as Rob Gordon. I love that he's a bit of a dick throughout the film but you like him nonetheless. The stuff with him, Black and Todd Louiso in the record shop is fantastic and high points of the film. Also you get a Bruce Springsteen cameo, what more could you ask for.

I watched Sure Thing the other day after a teen comedy binge and was really impressed by it. One of the better 80s teen romance, comedies along with Cant Buy Me Love and Just one of the guys.

Say Anything was good to.

Valley Girl and Some Kind of Wonderfull, although well made and enjoyable didnt hold up to well because of decisions the characters made that the movie asked us to be on board with.

Like Eric Stoltz throwing his future away on an expensive ring nobody cared about and Valley Girl breaking up with Nic Cage cuz, reasons.

Love both movies, but I gotta go with High Fidelity.
