Could Jerry O'Connell have made a good Peter Parker?

Not in 2002, since he would undoubtedly been too old (heck, Tobey Maguire you can easily argue, was himself already a tad bit "too old", given that he was roughly 26 at the time) but let's say a Spider-Man movie had been made 10 or so years prior. O'Connell had done this syndicated show out of Canada back in the late '80s called My Secret Identity.

In it, he played an average teen who after getting blasted by a photon beam, he winds up gaining superpowers, for which he uses them to help others. That basic summary sounds awfully similar the way that Peter Parker gained his spider-powers. He also played a scientific genius/inventor on the show Sliders, which Peter Parker is kind of also described as being.

Hmm... I suppose that could have possibly worked.

In the 1990s sure probably.

MY SECRET IDENTITY WAS MY FAVORITE SHOW WHEN IT WAS ON...IN THAT SAME TIMEFRAME O'CONNELL COULD HAVE BEEN AN EXCELLENT PETER PARKER.

reply

He had charisma but would not have been able to pull off the dramatic moments.

reply

Maybe back in the mid to late-90s
