God! This film was really bad...Wasn't it?

This film was completely pointless and cheap.Just because Kate Winslet is brave enough to take off her clothes and get naked director Jane Campion didn't have to show her full frontal nudity. That scene was stupid. And she's peeing herself. What was the point of that?Stupid, pointless, cheap and weird film.Anyone agree?

Why why why??? When Keitel punched her it was probably symbolic of what her agent should have done when Kate agreed to do this film. Kate is always, of course, a sublime actress who could deserves to take home an Oscar for any role she plays, but the subject matter was tasteless and cringeworthy.

I don't agree. The nude scene was about her using her sexuality to gain a position of power in their relationship. Notice how she was in control of their relationship after that. She seduced him and by doing so got him to put on a dress and makeup. Would he have humiliated himself like that for the woman who went down on him earlier in the movie? Or even the morning after the sex scene; Would he have allowed her out to the pub that night if the night before hadn't happened? The movie exposed a weakness in men. Sometimes we think with what's between our legs instead of our brains and it clouds our better judgement. Plus, I do love seeing Kate Winslet naked. It was worth watching just for that.

Pam Grier is in it too. Surely that's a good thing?

You killed him!
Well,I didn't mean to.
Didn't mean to? You put your sword right through his head!

That's what real tits look like. They're for feeding babies and that's the purpose they served even before she did this movie. I don't like the silicone airbrushed disproportionate ones that too many movies show these days. You think they're bad?! try looking at Teri Hatcher's in her early movie rolls. They were saggy even without pregnancy or feeding babies.

I agree. Really Bad... 'totally awful'.

This movie was so dumb that I stopped watching it about 2/3rds of the way through. The premises was completely dumb. First of all, if she had been exposed to this cult, she certainly didn't seem the worse for it. She came back her usual spoiled self. So, what was the point of getting a "deprogrammer"? What did this cult do to her?

Then, they hire this weird guy (Keitel)to have complete free reign over her. Not likely! Not in such a protectionistic family. If they were freaked out about her experience in India, they wouldn't just hire some American to straighten her out.

The movie just seemed to be an excuse for a sexual relationship with the two main characters. This movie was just incredibly stupid. I got fed up with it and switched it off.
