What exactly is wrong with this show?

This show is not even for children past 4 or 5, so why are so many people bashing it? My 15 month old can't take his eyes off the screen. I hope that by 4 or 5 Barney is beneath him, but if not, I will force the issue then.

Anyway, point is, 1 year olds are mesmerized, great show, keeps him busy..what more could a parent ask for but a little peace and quiet.

Technically speaking, nothing was wrong with it. I've notice that all popular and over hyped fads get hate.
It happened with the following fads in the past.

1) Justin Bieber
2) Hannah Montana/Miley Cyrus
3) Britney Spears
4) Dora the Explorer
5) Twilight
6) Glee
7) High School Musical
8) Yo Gabba Gabba
9) The Jonas Brothers
10) Teletubies (understandable! Hated those creeps lol).

Even though this is an old imdb topic I will go head and say what I think is wrong with Barney. Barney is annoying. He has an annoying dumb sounding voice. And he's always happy and never has any other emotion. And that is why he is annoying. I admit I am biased as I was in first grade when this show debuted and had always watched Sesame Street and other shows. But to me what makes Sesame Street better and why it hasn't been cancelled even to this day is that the puppet characters on Sesame Street are able to express many emotions. Also I would argue if anyone was sad on this show the scene is ruined by Barney acting all happy when they are sad. It just doesn't work.

It created too many unrealistic expectations by painting an overly-rosy picture of everything. The few minor conflicts which arose on the show were always solved simply and quickly by having everyone holding hands, singing a song and living happily ever after. Sunshine and rainbows.

It was a rude awakening for kids when they discovered that real life doesn't work that way.
