The crash scene was epic, wasn't it ?

I thought so. Even after 12 years it looks top-notch and is packed with intensity. Rest of the film feels just as good, too. Proof that low-budget and old-school effects can be the key to a great work of sci-fi.
BTW I'm also fond of TCoR (director's cut).

I have to say yes.
No matter what you think of the movie, the crash sequence is excellent.

reply

I agree, the entire movie is brilliant!

reply

The excellent crash scene is just the start of an excellent movie!

When I get big again, I'm so coming back here with a can of bug spray!

it is strangely effective

and I mean strangely. I have never seen a crash sequence like that, with the cut aways from perspectives, to the slicing here and there.

very very good

If i go crazy will you still call me Superman?

reply

It has the best opening sequence in a sci-fi film since Stars Wars in my opinion.

reply

It reminds me of a well done comic book with the POV cutaways.

Call me Snake.

Absolutely so. Even two decades later with all the garish CGI around space vehicular scenes are dull and uninteresting - almost cartoonish. This was perhaps the best crash scene there is.

reply

That's a good point - this was done in 2000 and it looks amazing even from today's perspective. With all the CGI now, they could certainly make it better, but they don't even try (maybe it's too expensive).

It was pretty good, the way she jumped into the cockpit and dealt with the issue at hand, and being at odds over pulling that handle to purge the weight from the back. Then she gets those doors open to act as an air dam and pull it down as the windscreen smashes open! It was good acting and as exciting and dramatic as the Aliens drop.

I thought the other guy's dialogue over the comms could have been revised a little. Didn't feel urgent enough when he's adding in swear words and talking as slow as he was.

Yes. The crash scene stood out for sure. It really was very impressive.
