top 5 'worst' disney movies

it's not that they have to be 5, only i can think of 5. may be the word "worst" isn't appropriate. actually i like all of disney animated features to a certain degree and may be because of high expectations i find some of them dissapointing, or they just don't match those which i really like. don't get offended, my list is mine, it has nothing to do with you, so... here are the films which for me are not in the same league with beauty and the beast or the lion king for example. in no particular order:

1.treasure planet (no real magic, especially the ending was too "starwar-ish" and also i love the original trasure ISLAND story, i don't think it was needed a new version of the tale)
2.lilo & stitch (i don't know, it just didn't grab me, only stitch was cool)
3.the emperor's new groove (same without the stitch part)
4.aladdin (actually i don't think it's bad, only i watched it with bad dubbing, and may be that was the problem)
5.fantasia (may be it is a masterpiece, but it wasn't my kind of fun)

a) Try posting this on Animation boards instead.
b) It's really STUPID to post this here where you demean the movie in it.

Supermodels...spoiled stupid little stick figures mit poofy lips who sink only about zemselves.

reply

it's stupid to take my opinion so personally. i don't demean anything, i express my opinion. i already explained that. so what's the difference where i post? i only whant to see different views, not to see people who agree with me.

you're right.i haven't seen all of disney movies, like chicken little and home on the range, but yesterday i saw the black cauldron and it was great, i'm only sorry i haven't seen it as a kid.

don't worry, it's obvious i won't take it the wrong way:)i haven't really thought about the flaws of the black cauldron, i also haven't read the books, i just sat sown and watched it and it grabbed me immedietly all the way. may be because of the low imdb raiting i didn't have high expectations, i just wanted to see as many disney movies as i can and while i was watching i thought that a disney animated sword-and-sorcery movie should look and feel exactly like this. about the taran character, i thought it was weak and one dimensional, too. but it didn't bother me much because i was having a good time. i wanted it to be longer, which is a good thing. about treasure planet, i watched it again yesterday and i liked it more than the first time. it happens someteimes. especially the john silver character. the film is imaginative, the relationships are presented right, the personalities are strong and the action sequences are worth the big budget. what i didn't like were the colors, the atmosphere. the portal at the end looks different in my head, and the treasure, too. they should have given us more of the planet. that's where i think disney animators would have done a really good job and i missed it while i was watching. also some of the creatures were a little bit exaggerated like capt. flint and all those eyes. i guess i am an old school disney fan, i miss the magic of beauty and the beast and peter pan and the hand drawing (although i am aware that beauty is made with the help of compures too, only it doesn't look that way, at least not much). computers are starting to annoy me, but on the other hand i really like the pixar movies and dreamworks' shrek. for me animation is all about how you feel watching it, it's not like live action movies where flaws are everything and the good parts don't make things right. in animation they do. but what you've said about the black cauldron was very interesting and you're right, only knowing it now don't make me feel less satisfied from the experience.
my english is not very good, i hope i've made myself clear about what i've tryed to explain.

after all i haven't made myself clear:) more english practice i guess:) what i meant about the magic wasn't that i like only magical fairy tales with magicians and whiches and turning beasts into men, flying lost boys and a sexy little mermaid who leaves her underwater paradice for the love of her life. by magic i meant the way they were doing animation before. by hand drawing, by giving life into every frame. i feel they were doing it more for themselves than for the audience (which is not true of course but it's how i feel it). all of those "not magical" disney movies you recommended are among my favourites, too. they ARE magical, you know. but something is missing lately. ok let's not "demean" treasure planet anymore, let's talk about atlantis for example. i agree with you that it's a disappointment, i only liked the action sequences at the beginning and at the end and kida was cute. and i think if it had been made 15-20 years ago, with not that much money involved, and in the tradion of the old disney movies it would have been better. i think that the giant robots at the end for example wouldn't exist at all and somehow the trip to atlantis was uneven with all those trucks in a place where there are no roads! i'd prefer if the group was walking and strange scary things happen to it (just an example). and so on. i'm not against computers, too. finding nemo was amazing and it was also magical. i only think that computers changed the animators' touch. there won't be characters like sebastian, lady or thumper anymore. there was something innocent about them. now everyone tries to be funny (most of the time succesfully by the way) and the special effects are stunning but that's it. last night i sat down to watch dinosaur. i only watched 10 minutes because i had to go out, but i saw the little baby dinosaur and the monkeys kept saying oh, what a cute baby, and it wasn't cute at all. it was all so real. and with a budget which was about 150 million, in my opinion the main purpose was everything to look as real as possible. what's the point? it's animation after all? i love animation because it's not real. if i want to see good special effects i'll go and see king kong, you know?

Pocahontes-(meh)
Lilo and Stich-(its alright, too melodramatic)
Rescuers down under-(Not that bad, just not that good either)

Whoa ... Aladdin was one of the best Disney movies ever

reply

[deleted]

1.Home on the Range (hate this movie)
2.The Heffalump movie (not really necessary IMO)
3.The Rescuers Down Under (loved the first one but they just lost the magic with this one)
4.Chicken Little (enough said)
5.High school Musical (okay it's a Disney channel movie but it still sucks)

I think the Black Cauldron is just to dark for traditional Disney but I like it. Treasure Planet is good but then again I was still a kid when it came out and that may have something to do with it.

reply

Wow...
Treasure planet and atlantis were the best IMO
...
Also, i liked the rescuers down under when i was younger (Better then the first imo)

My top worst (not in order):
The black cauldrun (Guess i just didnt like the setting, again My opinion)
Chicken little (I WANNA MURDER THAT DAMN PIG!)
HSM (Grease ripoff)
umm too lazy to complete the list now...

reply

screw you todor

emperor's new groove was *beep* hilarious!!

Well, first off, I'm going to make some comments about your opinions, and I'm just stating what I think, so don't take it to heart.

1. I can see why you'd NOT like this if you were a fan of the old tale, but I think Disney was trying to clue kids in on the older one. I have friends who love both version, having read the older one first.

2. Lilo and stitch made me sleepy at times. The people were very attractive looking.

3. Personally, I think Disney was reaching for new horizons with this film. They were making way more adult jokes, some of which were very . . . hmmm, I'm not sure how to say it. Very, well, adult! I don't mean sexual, I mean just . . . grown up. I.E. The angel and the devil arguing about masculinity.

4. Aladdin was good, I'm not sure what you're getting at. If you want to see something bad in that way, check out "The Return of Jafar": Or rather, don't, because it's horrid.

5. I didn't like fantasia much either, visually, but the music was gorgeous. The new on is a work of genius.

There aren't really any of the Disney animated films that I "hate". Since I probably loved all of them at one point and then didn't at another. There was a phase when I thought I was too old for them and didn't like most of them. (I've thankfully grown out of that silly old phase.)

But I will say something about the ones that I don't like as much.

the Jungle Book- It is a good movie, with good songs and such, but I just don't think that King Louie and and persona that he had has aged well. Plus everyone keeps calling him a monkey and he's not, he's an ape. Sorry, that's just a pet peeve of mine.

the Aristocats - I love this movie because I love cats. The story again was solid. But I feel that it had the same problem of not again well. It had that hep-cat "groovy" stuff of the sixties. It also seemed out of place with, what was the time period? I kept thinking the 1910's or twenties.

Oliver & Company- This is one I'm on the fence about a lot. Because it's a lot like Treasure Planet in that it's a classic story told in a different way. But it again, has the potential of not agging well. This is why so many Disney films are set a long time ago. That firy tale time is classic...it doesn't age.

Home on the Range- People do pick on this one alot, and I'm sorry. Because I agree with a few of them. It just wasn't what I expected. It didn't feel like a Disney animated film. It didn't "reach" me.

Chicken Little- Another case of great voice actors, not so great movie. It just got kind of tedious after the second viewing. Maybe it was just like HotR, it didn't feel like a Disney movie If it's on I do bear in mind that it has Zach Braff in it and I believe it was Don Knotts' (sp? last film.

As for Black Cauldron, I have no opinion. I don't remember enough of it to have one.

Treaser Planet I was so-so about when it cae out, mostly because that was when I was going through my non-Disney phase. I love it now.

I don't worry as much about the upcoming Princess & the Frog. It has a set decade (the 20's), and if they play it well it will age well.

Of the major animated movies, the series of titles they released in the nineties was just awful:

#5) Hercules
#4) Tarzan
#3) Pochahontas
#2) Hunchback
#1) Hunchback

Hunchback sucks so so much that it counts as two movies. I absolutely hate 'The Lion King,' but I'm in the minority there. It's still not as bad as my lineup above, and doesn't displace Hunchback from either of it's slots.

reply

I haven't even attempted to review (watch again) Hunchback of Notre Dame because it's too much of a love story. Nor have I wanted to review The Little Mermaid because it is, as Hunchback, a love story. SO MUCH a love story that it really doesn't interest me, even though I like the characters.

My least favorite Disney animations are:

1. The Fox and the Hound (This MUST be the most DEPRESSING animation ever made.)

2. The Lion King (This movie is also fairly depressing. Just not enough-- anything, to interest me)

3. Cinderella (It's Cinderella. . . boring, to me. Maybe some guys like it, but I don't. I don't think it's bad, I just don't like it.)

4. The Rescuers (I prefer the second. This is too-- I dunno. Just isn't interesting, though I do like the two main mice)

5. Fantasia (This is my LEAST favorite of ALL because. . . it's boring. There's nothing to it. It's not a movie so much as a long string of test clips.)

There are plenty more I dislike, but these are the ones that are SUPPOSED to be great. If I picked on all of the 'lesser' ones, then it wouldn't be fair.

reply

1. High School Musical 1 (haven't seen this, but it's a safe bet)
2. High School Musical 2 (read above)
3. High School Musical 3 (yeah I went there)
4. Miley Cyrus: Best of both...something, something concert...
5. Some other lame Disney Channel production.

Cheers

2. High school musical 1,2 and 3

3. Camp rock (more like camp lame pop)

4. Anything Jonas brothers

5. Enchanted (poorly written story line)

reply

Ok first let me say that aladdin is actually one of disney's best movies.
but to my least favourites now

1) Home on the Range (Terribly boring movie)
2)Fantasia (as a music student i probably should have enjoyed it more than i did. But it was just really boring)
3) Aladdin: return of Jafar (now that was a really bad movie. i'll just let that stand for pretty much every disney sequel out there)
4)The rescuers (meh it never caught my attention)
5) The Sword in the Stone (again, it never caught my attention)

hmm let's see...the top 5 movies of disney I hate..

1) HIGH SCHOOL MUSICAL 1, 2, AND 3! IT HAS NO PLOT! IT'S FRIGGIN RETARTED PIECE OF CRAP!

2) Home on the range (it was a piece of crap! I was expecting it to be rly good as disney's so called LAST 2D animation but know the F**cked it up!)

3) Chicken little (really had no plot, and all the characters were annoying)

4) Dumbo (I don't exactly hate it, it's just not my favourite)

5) Emperor's new groove (same with Dumbo)

reply

Heh. If I listed my top five worst, I'd get flamed so bad...Let's just say that I'd put something of a black shadow over a few of the "Timeless Disney Classics"

Keeper of Josef's Josefness, Lance's Black Eye and Mick's Lost Krispy Kreme
