Apparently a trans-allegory...

... according to this article:

https://www.vanityfair.com/hollywood/2020/08/the-matrix-trans-allegory-lilly-wachowski

A quote:
"Twenty-one years after her breakthrough film’s release, Lilly Wachowski has finally confirmed theories about the trans allegory at the heart of The Matrix, the blockbuster film franchise she codirected with her sister Lana."

I have never read or heard that the Matrix series was an allegory for the trans experience. I'm calling bulls**t... it's a form of retconning to generate interest in the next movie, no doubt suggested by PR people. For me, the series was really done after the first one... the next two didn't add anything to the concept.

Well get ready because if you disagree with a trans interpretation of the movie they'll attack you and call you a transphobic.

It is supposed to be literally about our reality being a simulation, and in the sequel it turns out at one point Neo can actually manipulate reality outside of the matrix as well which means he was still in some sort of a simulation therefore simulation inside of a simulation which means exiting the matrix which is reality is impossible. It is supposed to be a philosophical view of our universe and claiming it is a trans story cheapens it but then again artists are usually morons inspired to create work beyond their understanding meaning smarter than they are. I attribute it to higher understanding of the universe on an emotional subconscious level.

reply

They are only saying it is a trans allegory now because they have the fourth film coming out and they think they have to pander to the LGBTQallthewaytoZ group.

They will ruin it.

I'm with you. What a load of nonsense.

1. Its very concept.
Neo has dysphoria. loooooool. Where to even begin unpacking this wild claim.

2. Neo entering the real world and ditching his deadname.
Birth. So it's nothing to do with it being a rip off of GITS? Deadnaming. Of course the agents aren't going to acknowledge Neo as anything other than Mr. Anderson as he's just just a glitch in their system.

3. The red pill.
Estrogen may well have been a "chocolatey maroon colour". So why not make the pill that colour then? Instead they choose a bright, vivid red pill. You know, as it pops on screen and looks good. They had to pick two colours so why not pick two primaries.

4. Switch was supposed to be presented as trans.
Well this is just JK Rowling style ret-conning. If it was so important, why not go through with her being a woman when in the Matrix? Probably because it wouldn't have made sense. And you just have to love Netflix's reply to anyone that dares criticize this claim “Who are you to tell not only a creator, but also a trans person, what was or wasn’t present in their minds while making their own film?” What relevance is it if they are trans? Who is Netflix to criticize someone if they just don't believe a film maker making claims about something 20 years after the fact? Conveniently when a new film is coming out...

5. Bullet time.
Bullet time "represented the trans experience". Ahahahaha. What? It's a cool effect. End of.

6. It was spelled out for us all along.
Zooming in between the letters M and F. Yeah, because no films have ever zoomed into the centre of the screen before...

And if you think even for one second that disagreeing that The Matrix is a "trans-allergory" is transphobic, you are simply wrong. Just because someone thinks they're a different gender to what they were born as, doesn't shield them from criticism, nor does it mean any criticism is due to their trans status.

reply

Lol, that's laughable and not at all believable. It's a shame the directors ended up as ranting nutcases, because I've always liked the movie a lot.

reply

I just don't buy. If that were really true, I think they would have mentioned it before now. Why are they saying this now? Identity politics and LBGTQA1 is all the rage now in Hollyood and if you can look back at the Matrix through that identity politics lens, it fits (as does any sort of transformation/awakening for that matter), but I don't think that is what they had in mind at the time. They are just exploiting the current politics of Hollyweird IMO. Additionally, it drums up a little press for the forthcoming Matrix movie that I hope will be on par with the first, but I fear will be even worse than the sequels.

reply

Well I just say its up for interpretation in anyway the viewer seem fit. I look at The Matrix now through the lense of The Red Pill more than anything else.

The Wachowski brothers probably are crying about Republicans referencing their work so they're attempting to make it seem less hip to do so. What they don't get is that Political Correctness like this actually makes it all the better to dirty up liberal cry space. Transforming LGBT's YMCA into MAGA was excellent, made lots of liberals cry and scream "you can't do that to our song, whaah whaah."

The Wachowski brothers want to live in their fantasy Matrix, where they can change their God given sex at will. They don't want Conservatives forcing the red pills down their throats and breaking the illusion of the lies they prefer to believe. It won't work, no matter how many blue pills you take you'll always be a man.

reply

The brothers were on top of their game with the matrix. This is just sad.
