Based on an Untrue Story

Good Morning, Vietnam wasn’t accurate at all. But the real Adrian Cronauer had this to say about it: “I’m very happy with it. Of course, it was never intended to be an accurate point-by-point biography. It was intended as a piece of entertainment, and (Williams) was playing a character named Adrian Cronauer who shared a lot of my experiences. But actually, he was playing Robin Williams.”share
Contrast that with Patch Adams, another “biopic” that took out its subjects’ real life story and replaced it with the “Robin Williams plays a rebel who the stuffy establishment hates for his silly ways and now Williams has to defend himself and keep his job” formula. Adams didn’t want them to change almost his entire life story, he basically sold his life rights because he needed the money for one of his charities. But when they not only misportrayed him but didn’t even have the gall to use any of the money the movie made to donate to his charity, despite it making $200 million dollars, yeah, that comes off a lot worse.
