Anyone know what the real Patch Adams is like?

This film portrayed Dr. Adams as a good-hearted, exuberant sort of fellow, but I'm curious whether this is an accurate depiction or if it's simply Robin Williams' personal touch. I heard a rumor (from one source) that the real Patch Adams isn't this amiable, but given his dedication to others I am highly doubtful of such an accusation. Has anyone heard talk on Patch's actual disposition? Thanks!

The film "Patch Adams" was based on Adams' life and views on medicine. Adams has criticized the film, saying it eschewed an accurate representation of his beliefs in favor of commercial viability. He said that out of all aspects of his life and activism, the film portrayed him merely as a funny doctor. Patch Adams also said of Robin Williams in an interview, "He made $21 million for four months of pretending to be me, in a very simplistic version, and did not give $10 to my free hospital. Patch Adams, the person, would have, if I had Robin's money, given all $21 million to a free hospital in a country where 80 million cannot get care."

However, in another interview, Adams did clarify that he did not dislike Williams, and Williams had actively supported St. Jude Children's Research Hospital for several years.

I recently found a video of Patch Adams on Youtube talking about the movie, he explains 'the humor, is just like this hair on my head, it's just a taste', explaining he is about so much more than just making people laugh, he's about love, about art, about healing, but in Hollywood only 2 things sell movies, horrible things, and comedy, so they just focused on the funny aspect and cut his story down. But then he talks about the grandmother revolution, that all we need is to each be like if you had a sweet mother, a sweet grandmother, who cared about you, who took care of you and took care of other people, that's all we need, that's what he's about.

Too many have found major differences as already mentioned--Patch more goofier here, the real Patch more easier and down to earth (for what's it worth, as a hit song of the era was titled, I actually a lot like the Patch Adams film myself even though I see rational points in The Nostalgia Critic, Patch himself (Not the Robin Williams version), and Siskel and Eberts fault-findindings as the movie CAN be enjoyed pretty well on its own terms.)

The REAL Patch did not look like Robin Williams.

Amanda Bynes is hot and Lindsay Lohan is not.
