Amazon puts Fox Books out of business

I was just wondering does anyone think that Fox Books would even exist now in a world with Amazon?

Always room for a good bookshop.

It's that man again!!

Well I have to say I'm so glad to have Amazon so I can download all my books on Kindle.

I've always thought this would be what a potential sequel could be about: how the downsizing/selling off of Fox Books would affect Joe and Kathleen's relationship. The Fox family is obviously used to steamrolling over their competition, and how they are affected as the new business model forces them to change would have been interesting. Even if Fox Books still existed today, the family would have had to adjust to no longer being "the biggest fish in the pond". If the company was sold off or subdivided, how many kids/relatives/exes would have come looking for a slice of the pie?

People keep bringing up Barnes in this thread, but Fox Books looked like it was modeled more after Borders with its wide spaces and trendy decor.

R.I.P Borders, gotta admit I miss 'em.

Fox wouldn't be long behind.

The thing Borders was a victim of was a trend to overstuff local markets with big box bookstores. B&N was already established, and Borders seemed to pick higher-priced real estate to build on. There were simply too many bookstores and it had to shake out. B&N itself built stores too close together and had to scale back. At one time we had THREE B&N stores within five minutes of our house. That was ridiculous.

The Borders nearest us made a HORRIBLE decision on location. They tried to build near a trendy mall, but they weren't really close enough for mall customers to simply drop in, and the entire area had enough drive through auto traffic that their location was a pain in the ass to get to and then in and out of. And that's what ultimately killed them.
