Happy birthday Jennifer Love Hewitt and Lauren Ambrose

Lauren Ambrose is celebrating her 42nd birthday today. Ambrose grew up in New Haven, and began acting in her teens. She also studied voice at Boston University’s Tanglewood Institute. Ambrose became known in the late 1990s for the teen comedy Can’t Hardly Wait and for starring in the cult classic Psycho Beach Party. She then became a two-time Emmy nominee as Claire Fisher on HBO’s Six Feet Under.

But since about 2005, Ambrose’s screen career has fizzled somewhat. She has worked in indie films, and had a few TV movie and miniseries roles. Her stage career, however, has prospered.

Ambrose made her Broadway debut in a 2006 revival of Clifford Odets’s Awake and Sing! She appeared as Juliet and Ophelia in Shakespeare in the Park productions of Romeo and Juliet and Hamlet. Last year, Ambrose enjoyed the biggest success of her career. She starred as Eliza Doolittle in the Broadway revival of My Fair Lady, and was nominated for the Tony for Best Actress in a Musical (and several other honors).
