Why was the scene with the vodka-filled watermelon cut out?

Jason Segal plays this guy who walks into the kitchen yelling to his buddies about filling a watermelon with seven bottles of vodka back in September and keeping it in the freezer. And before he could finish, everybody grabs at it and the watermelon falls down and smashes in the ground. This would've explained where the stoner guys got the watermelon slices from later in the film.

I remember reading the alternate versions section on the IMDb that a lot of editing and censoring had to be done because the filmmakers and studio were afraid that they would've otherwise, gotten an R-rating, which naturally, would've prevented the movie's main target audience (teenagers) from being able to easily see it. The only really "R-rated" stuff is when Lauren Ambrose says the "f-word".
