Am I the only one that actually enjoyed this movie?
D:
shareApparently not.
I am not a huge fan of horror movies, but this was far better than expected. Snider's script writing inexperience shows in some scenes, but overall, I thought it wasn't bad.
nah, i dug it. still do.

Nope. I liked it too. I think they could've made it a bit longer so that the pace could have been slowed down a bit. Otherwise it was a lot better than i was expecting. Snider is an intelligent guy (see "Metal: A Headbanger's Journey" for some fantastic interviews with him), and he's able to write well (save for a few lines) and ingrain some interesting messages about society, technology, etc, at the same time. While it's not a masterpiece, it definitely deserves a much higher rating than it has at the moment.
shareNo, I think there's a silent minority of people like us that did like it. :)
shareMight be. The film was truly pretty bad. It's a really bad train wreck of a film. But yet it has some sort of entertainment value. Like turning your head to notice the car crash on the freeway.
It holds that trashy campy horrid feel. But yet its stuck in the realm of the attempt to be dark as black world of the Hot Topic kids.
Yet Dee Snider is pushing for a sequel and a DEE Cut of the original.
His acting was beyond terrible.
And the alsolute and ultimate rip off of PUMKINHEAD is all too clear. Just sad.
Turns out like Sleepaway Camp but not fun or as exciting and entertaining.
These rockers have a love for films and wise to show off their like of some but just do really bad remakes, if not remakes themselves.
Strangeland- Pumkinhead
House of 1000 Corpses- Texas Chainsaw M
Halloween- Halloween
I liked it when I first saw quite awhile ago and had since forgotten all about it, until I saw it on IFC tonight. Pretty good movie except for some over-emoting, great soundtrack for the metalheads. And now a sequal?! Nice.
Sean, why don't you send Gunga Din here for some water?
I liked it. 7/10. A lot of people see these type of sado-masochistic movies and write it off as torture porn and give it a bad rating. The compelling part about these type of movies is that this is a potential real life situation. A lot of people can't bare the thought of that. It scares them into giving such a movie a bad rating.
-See What I See
I liked it for the most part but I have issues with a couple things that unfortunately were a pretty big part of the whole.
1. Dee Snider's psychological comments...he speaks them in this redundant and annoying phrasing manner. It didn't work for me. (But keep to belting out tunes like "Burn In Hell"!!!!)
2. The Mike Gage's assistant, Steve,(and Woody Harrelson's brother in real life) did an awful job.
3. Mike Gage looked to much like a Kevin Costner. That casting decision seemed intentional. He played a good enough role considering his counter part sucked. But he did have acting issues as well. (His hand after dropping the mic in the car when he decides not to call in that the natives kidnap Hendricks, his reaction to the dollar bill not working in the coffee machine, his reaction to not figuring out how to turn on the computer...all pretty weak acting moments...it's spots like these that start tarnishing the film.)
On the plus side,
1. The nightmare sequence was great. (Genevieve rocked it)
2. The torture procedures were intense. Victims looked genuinely terrified
3. The hospitalized character of Carlton Hendrick's possessed a certain eeriness.
4. Some good raw scenes. One that stands out is when Jackson(Robert Englund) sees his wife dangling. The hanging scene. The victims tied up, strapped down, hooked and locked in Howdy's lair.
5. Linda Cardellini(Genevieve) did a terrific job. Elizabeth Pena definitely portrayed a realistic frightened mother. And Amy Smart played a simple but solid role that could've been given to a shoddy 2nd rate actress which would've meant too much bad acting. The assistant was bad enough for the whole cast.
6. A decent balance of good soundtrack and film scoring.
Not bad at all considering this was Dee's first attempt and a low budget one at that
It doesn't touch "House of a 1000 Corpses" or "Devil's Rejects", Rob Zombie is great but he did really screwed up Halloween 2007.

"Life is a near death experience"
I thought it as kinda cool the way Hendricks looked, he was pretty badass, it was NOT scary though - Lolz.
Its a jungle out there.
This flick was on IFC last night; I'd never seen it, gave it a shot, and was actually surprised! I enjoyed it! Maybe I'm a sick-o, but I thought it was really well made, especially for the genre. It could have been a complete gore-fest, but while sure, the subject and some parts of the flick were creepy, that was the point of the flick! I think Dee Snider is a great singer, loved the song at the end, and he even did a FAB job acting. Overall, job well-done!
