Twilight Zone: Five Characters in Search of an Exit

What an awful film. Bored to tears. How is this even considered part of the horror genre? This was about as scary as a Stargate SG1 episode.

This felt like a short student film that dragged on for 75 minutes too long.

People have compared this to a Twilight Zone episode and rightfully so. The basic premise is very similar to an actual Twilight Zone episode. Except the Twilight Zone episode did it five times better in 1/3 of the run time.

The episode is called "Five Characters in Search of an Exit."

Are you serious right now or are you just incredibly simple minded?

There are some similarities to the Twilight Zone episode, but there are some huge differences, too. I mostly liked this movie. The concept was good. It got a little odd in the sequels, though.

I'm just expressing my opinion.

I thought it was OK. The over-acting detracted a lot.

I agree about the Twilight Zone episode. Also: "No Exit" and "The Quiet Earth" (which is a far better film).

Some logical plot holes detracted also.

IMDB has it at a 7.2. I'd give it a 6 at best.

How is people locked in a death cube the same as dolls in a barrel?

reply

they are five characters in search of an exit.

Might as well just credit the whole shebang to Pirandello then, right?

reply

the keyword you are missing is "inspired by"

not the same as.

I was more just winking at the "five characters in search of an exit" sounding like "Six Characters in Search of an Author", not trying to say Pirandello should literally get the credit for the scripts.

Cube was great. I really liked what they did to build character and suspense in a limited environment.

The Twilight Zone is one of the most influential shows of all time. In terms of the Sci-fi and Fantasy genres it may well be THE most influential show of all time

I agree that the movie kind of sucked, but that had to do more with the mediocre writing, acting, and production and not so much that it was similar to a Twilight Zone episode. Lots of low to mid budget and indy genre movies could be described as being "like a Twilight Zone episode"

I do think that it is similar to Five Characters in Search of an Exit, but not enough to really consider it a rip-off. Five Characters in Search of an Exit used mostly just dialogue to establish tension throughout the story and then topped things off with a twist ending. Cube uses gore and wacky sci-fi images to keep you watching and it lacks the twist
