films like this one?

I thought this was one of the most tense films I've ever seen, can anyone suggest others like this and is it worth me watching the other two films?

Not a film but the Outer Limits episode 'Quality of Mercy' is somewhat similar.

Have any of you guys seen "The Cube" (1969), an hour-long teleplay directed by Jim Henson? It feels similar to this movie, yet it's a lot deeper in my opinion.

reply

Yeah that was a nice film, but completely different from Cube.

reply

What I meant is that it did have the same "guy is trapped in a cube, he doesn't know why he's there and never finds out" type of feeling.

I haven't watched Cube yet (I'm just about to, got it from Netflix) but the description sounds alot like the novel "House of Stairs". I read it in middle school, about 25 years ago, and thought it was really good. I just googled it and it says that a film version is being made this year. Hopefully they will do the novel justice. It's being made by some Canadian film company, so I don't know if it will get a wide release, maybe straight to DVD.

Maybe its just the indie Canadian horror thing, but Pontypool reminded me a lot of Cube. Its similarly claustrophobic, and while Cube plays with mathematics, Pontypool plays with theoretical linguistics. It also delves into a lot of psychology and philosophy.

I'm gonna look up this film on the title alone. Is the place in Canada called Pontypool? There's a Pontypool near me in Wales too.

Is that the film where creepy beings change a city around and there's a woman who sings?

Fermat's Room (2007) is excellent.

Symbol (2009) is a hilarious, weird comedy that's totally worth seeking out.

Das Experiment (2001) has a different premise, but has some similarities.

Liar Game: Final Stage, which is the finale of a Japanese drama series made into a movie. You can start by watching the drama. It's not very long (2 season?). The story is based on a Japanese manga, which I think is very..."intelligent"? It's about strangers forced into this competition where they have to swindle each other in order to survive and win a huge sum of money. Less horror/violence but definitely worth a try!

One does not simply confuse THIS signature with the rants above
