What part made you cry and what part was the funniest

Hey Everybody

I absolutely love The Other Sister. It was well made and beautifully acted. But for me the part that always brings a lump to my throat is at the end when they get married and he finally gets to kiss his bride. That scene was not only perfect but wonderfully acted. It was the kiss of true love the way she just fell into his arms, the look on her face and how they did it in slow motion. Very beautiful. Julliette Lewis and Giovanni Ribisi did an excellent on thier parts. Did they win any awards for this movie??

The funniest parts for me is when he asks her to become his girlfriend and she acts like she's getting something from her purse or backpack and he backs away and asks if she's getting the pepper spray. The other part is when they look at the joy of sex book and when they "do it" and he puts on the marching band music. Another is when they are getting married and they keep trying to kiss before it's time.

The whole movie in general has some really great choke you up scenes. But the scenes that got me to where a few tears were rolling down my face were when Danny and Carla experience their first kiss after Danny learns he's failing school and she just reassures him that she loves him and everything is going to be fine. And Carla's vows at the wedding where Juliette both looks and acts beautifully. The funny parts to me were when Carla barks with the dogs and let's them loose at the charity benefit. A feel good scene to me is where Diane and Juliette dance to the AMAZING Carol King's "I Feel The Earth Move" where they're being mother and daughter. The funny parts were when in the flash back Carla pushes that kid down the stairs because the little bastard deserved it. And when Danny drops his lunchbox on that snotty bitch's foot. Those are the good ones.

Ohh, When everyone starts laughing at Carla and Daniel at the Country Club and Carla starts crying and yelling at everyone to stop laughing :'( that made me cry!! :(

as for the funny part...
If I'm thinking of the right movie, I think when Daniel comes over before the costume dance he barks at the mom? idk i thought that scene before they left was cute and funny XD

Great scenes:

Right after the makeover... and Carla is trying to conceal her face.

In the bedroom, where she is trying to emulate her classmate.

When Carla says...we will still pay you.

Daniel's scenes were played to perfection. The whole cast was great.
Great movie. If the Mental Retardation lobby was as strong as some of the other minority lobbies, it would have garnered more attention.

Fabulous movie.

Although, there were no tears to speak of on my part, I think that the scene where Danny is practicing his band routine and "moves" in the rain, was my "tug at the heart" moment.

Why? Because for nearly the entire movie, Danny was surrounded by people (band, bakery, landlord, short bus driver) that were loving and supported. I didn't see the loneliness or isolation factor sometimes associated to being mentally challenged. And a lot of good times with Carla. So, for the first time, you see him in a deep state of misery, sadness and despair. Absent was that huge smile and laughter that generally came about whenever anything related to band, was in play. The loneliness and pain etched in his face were really hard to take in.

And yes, I do recall that he lost it, when he and Carla went to look at grades. But, those emotions were more a sense of failure and were overcome rather quickly.

Of course, Carla had a parallel moment on the tennis court to his. But, she was there under the watchful eye of her loving mom, and of course the love and affection of a doting dad, sister and housekeeper. Danny had no-one except maybe his landlord and distant parents.

This movie was so much more than just a comedy about the challenges of a family with three different personalities and directions in life. It was a love story, it was a tale of two cities or social classes. Finally it was a story about the quest for autonomy.

Thanks for asking the question.

There was the scene when Carla was saying her vows and she started choking up and then it cuts to her sister starting to cry also. There's something about looking at other people crying during happy or sad moments that make me want to tear up myself.

The part that made me laugh the most was when Danny got drunk and made that speech during their rehearsal dinner (I think) and tells them that they "Did It", embarrassing Carla. Then the fight afterwards, when she walked out, with him following her, not understanding why she suddenly got upset. Then they started arguing and calling each other stupid. I was literally in tears.

I woke up this way...

Agreed. The movie was excellent, a perfect blend of romance and comedy at a slower pace that gave the time needed to experience all of the innocent sweetness Carla and Daniel share for the very first time together as they fell in love. I love when they are watching the Graduate and the crackers on her lap were spilling from her excitement, he could not take his eyes off of her. Such a wonderful thing that has happened to him, from many earlier comments we learn he went from being all alone to meeting someone he likes that likes him back and now they can share this movie together. Because of Carla's excitement over the film, she doesn't quite grasp Daniel's seriousness immediately when he attempts expressing he would like them to be more than just friends. But he continues to ask her as he reaches over to slightly adjust her sweater collar. This automatic affectionate gesture and first gentle touch from him alerts Carla to the importance of his question. The scene was so perfect and romantic when she agreed and he put his arm around her.

I also liked how their conversation on the couch about his first time was handled. His embarrassment and her seriousness that lead to his confession of love for her brings tears to my eyes every time. Their mutual deep love for each other makes this movie a joy to watch over and over.

A couple of other small parts I liked was the attentive shoe salesman. Really liked seeing pretty Carla getting some genuine personal attention. Also nice seeing Carla's feelings as a young woman emerging after witnessing her classmate sexually coming on to their teacher. Carla and Daniel preparing their own vows was a beautiful surprise so full of love and caring. We should all be this lucky to find such love in our lifetime.

My mistake. Watching it again I realize that Daniel reaches over to remove a cracker stuck on her sweater which is even cuter.
