Robert De Niro is 26 years older than Natasha McElhone
It just doesn't look right on screen does it?

shareRobert De Niro is a handsome, intelligent, powerful guy. Doesn't surprise me at all to see a younger character that's into him. Hell, I would be and I'm even younger than she was. So I didn't think it looked wrong but it definitely is quite an age gap.
shareGiven the personal backgrounds of both characters I guess none of them believed it would be more than a short adventure.
sharebingo
shareIt also didn't look right to me as well, but I tend to look at that sort of thing in a lot of films. I'm 51 and I guess I wish the age gap between male and female leads would be closer to real life.
I recall watching Adjustment Bureau recently and the leads were 13 years apart. It's not a big deal, but I guess it annoys me a little. Edge of Tomorrow was another one. I'm sure we can pick tons of them without thinking too hard.
The Jeffersons
shareWow, didn't know that!
shareActually, it looks good. She looked like a mature woman in her late 20s when this movie was shot, but actors that age from Gen X on down tend to look like overgrown high school boys. Imagine her in 1998 with someone like Keanu Reeves or Tom Cruise in that era? She would have looked like the guy's babysitter. De Niro looked like a rugged, mature man. (Even though he is a despicable, poxed scunt in real life.)
shareVery good observation. The low testosterone levels of Gen X and younger are quite striking. Movie stars have no gravitas anymore.
There’s a thread discussing this phenomenon: https://moviechat.org/general/General-Discussion/62dde545da9ee750bb68432e/Wheres-the-testosterone-in-modern-movie-stars
