Why does Roger hope his daughter's baby daddy is black?

I didn't catch the full movie (it was being shown on TV), but that part kind of rubbed me the wrong way. He never struck me as an anti-racial-mixer before.

I think it annoys many people (specifically white) people because they imagine if THEY said the same that it would of had malice meaning to it. Which would be true.
Fact is Roger made admittedly a racist but thoughtless comment. He wouldn't really disown his daughter for example he would just feel it would be EASIER however he would trust her judgement and go with it with open arms.

It was wrong of him to say it and a little out of character (bad move from the writers) considering the strong relationship he's had with a mix of people in his department and Briggs but it does happen.

Many Black and other non white people say comments like this a lot but at the end of the day they would try their best to deal with the situation with an open mind. Many white people do all the time some deal with it well others cut off those family members sadly and yes some Black/Asian people do too.

If anyone is confused by the situation then think of it like a father who has a son that for halloween wants to wear a dress. That father may have a Gay Uncle or brother who he loves still he makes that comment that he "hopes his son isn't gay" however naturally it's hard to tell when one person says this do they mean they'd pretend they never had a son and are they homophobic or are they using the example of they dont want their son to deal with the issues of being gay but that he'd still love him. We'd only know/presume that because this theoretical father has Gay relatives he has no issues with.

On the other hand we have no idea if Roger would truly 180 had his daughters baby daddy had been white in a real life situations. Many people of different races are friends even best friends with eachother but sadly wouldnt consider or want their children to "mix" and that is a shame.

People open your arms with love and support your children if they want a little cream in the coffee or a little chocolate in their ... donut? sheeet I don't know just Love each other. Life is hard enough without the BS.

After the way Riggs kissed his daughter on the mouth maybe Murtaugh was suspicious of Riggs being the father.

I have no idea. He had no problem with his daughter dating a white kid in Lethal Weapon 1.

IDK either, LET'S GO ASK HIM

Yeah, an outrage! Just like there was an outrage when Archie Bunker said that blacks weren't last on the list for jobs, Puerto Ricans were but they don't know it because they can't read the list!

Oh, wait. There wasn't an outrage.

Are you outraged that you think there would be an outrage even though there wasn't an outrage?

Now, this is a signature gun, and that is an optical palm reader.

Archie Bunker was friends with George Jefferson, yet he was also a good guy who came out with lots o' racist crap.

You're the one that seems a bit outraged...and you're expressing it by telling a story about how society is full of double standard hypocrisy and how you're better than that.

The whole series is full of racial stereotypes, sexism - all kinds of stuff. It's more noticable in the second and third movies because they amp up the comedy and the films are worse for it.

I can endure some of that stuff without a problem but as I age, so do these movies, they are surprisingly backwards for 90's movies. I found myself not laughing at some jokes, groaning at others, just a lot of *beep* you don't say anymore!
