What possible advantage could this have? I know HE'S small but why would he want his fighting weapon to be at a disadvantaged length?
And should this potentially be considered a plot hole?
My vague understanding is that the light sabers need a kyber crystal to channel the beam. But shouldn't this mean a consistent length to width ratio...
As I am aware, it is something for being more flexible in movements. With real swords, you would otherwise always hit the ground, not sure how light saber interact with the ground, but of course the fight styles are based on real world examples. It also always depends on your fighting style. Of course with bigger height you have "the high ground", but a fighter specialized on his style - which Master Yoda for sure is - can usually compensate this.

That's a fair point. We've seen light sabers penetrate steel doors, etc but it does take time. Maybe a full length blade would stick in the ground for Yoda...
But I think a light saber becomes a defensive weapon only for him.he can't reach his opponent with a thrust from that tiny blade, all be cancelled do is parry.

1. There were no Sith for millenia (ignoring recent fan fiction)
2. The way of the Jedi is protecting, not attacking.
3. Fear is the path to the Dark Side.
So for me, Yoda only needs a weapon to protect himself.
But only really pre Phantom Menace. There's no reason that Yoda shouldn't have upgraded since then, as the Jedi are aware by that point of a Sith threat.
