Jokes that were actually funny

I laughed when the female cop says out loud "Women." like a sexist man would.

You had to ruin it. Women are allowed to be sexist all day long and no one bats an eye. But if a man utters a neutral word, like 'women', the ONLY reason can be because he's sexist? Come on, THAT is a sexist statement.

To me, that was funny exactly because you never see it anywhere else, and it's completely unexpected that a woman would say 'pff, women!' the same way all the sexist women have always said 'pff, men!'.

How many times have you seen women say 'men!' in such a tone, and NOT have thought that woman must be sexist? This reveals YOUR sexism.

Gender-specific hatred, sexism, is just as insane as racism, because it's based similarly on physical qualities of someone that can't help having those qualities. If you have a certain skin color, be it 'pink, brown, orangeish, yellowish, red-ish' or whatnot (I think it's also stupid to say 'white' or 'black', because it's very rare to have actually white or black skin color - not saying impossible, just very rare), you can't help it.

So it'd be unfair to judge YOU because of a temporary physical quality you can't change (nor should you want to).

This includes genitalia, by the way... it's just as sexist to call a man sexist for saying "pff, women!", as it would be for a man to SAY 'pff, women!', if not more.

By the way, why don't you call that woman sexist for saying "pff, women!"?

Also, your statement completely denies the validity of saying 'pff, women'. Are you saying women are NEVER annoying, that women in the whole history of this planet have not ever done things that actually warrant someone saying "pff, women!"?

There is a lot of sexism and racism in this world, but most of it, being the most accepted form, is directed towards and suffered by innocent heterosexual 'white men'.

We are all human beings, we all have just as valuable souls, we should NOT judge each other or even ourselves by superficial physical temporary qualities, like the physical body's attributes or such things. We are souls.

Anyway, your sexist rant aside, let's talk about the topic itself.

Jokes that were actually funny - I'd say MOST of them. There were many chuckles, lots of funny references, hilarious absurdity, like the murderous train, well-crafted humor, etc.

There were 'surprise jokes' as well, that 'shouldn't have made me laugh, but did anyway', like the scene where Harrison is throwing rocks at the window, trying to get the woman's attention. When the cat smashed to the window, I couldn't help myself bursting to laughter - so absurd, so sudden, so hilarious.

The thing against this movie is that it makes Leslie Nielsen - the great deadpan comedian, into a bit of a clown. Smacking his face with branches and making him do faces is not his optimal strenght for comedy - he can do it, but it doesn't really fit his masterful, usual comedy style, and cheapens it all a little bit.

One remark about the concert stuff..

Having seen 'Twoset Violin''s channel a little bit, the violin scenes look so AWFUL right now - before, I didn't mind them at all, but now it's easy to see..

..there's no vibrato, he's playing at the wrong part, his bow is sliding all over the place, his movements do not match the music, he's doing one long slide when the music dictates he should be doing many small ones while also tilting the bow (and he isn't doing that), his fingering is atrocious, he's holding the violin all wrong, at one point there are no strings on the violin (or so it seems), his bow hold is awful and unrealistic, and destroying the violin at the end is terrible to witness, even if it's a relatively cheap one, aagh!

Other than that, the score is actually pretty good, no electric guitar or such crass noise, but actually melodic and music-sounding, orchestral score.. ahh. Balm for the soul.

The bouncing car joke was funny as well - especially since it was so over the top and lasted so long - what kind of a car IS that?? Could not hold my laughter for long, especially the 'toll paying'..

reply

Coins flying all over the place while Harrison is seriously trying to pay.. now, this is the deadpan in action.

This is not the best movie Leslie Nielsen has been in, and not his best comedy style - a bit too much 'clowning around' instead of the intelligent Police Squad!-style deadpan-delivery of ludicrous lines, but there's a lot to love about this movie - nice houses and locations, beautiful nature, great architecture, lovely summerlike scenes, and so much absurdity that extends to the endscroller.. "no trucks were injured".. how can you not laugh at that?

reply

I laughed when he got out of the car and kept shaking, then stopped - but stated shaking AGAIN - that got me.
