Maybe the best vampire movie ?

So cool and underrated.Shame on the tasteless audience

Are you kidding me? Some of the dialogue is so horribly delivered it makes me wonder how James Woods ever got to be a major celebrity. It's kinda fun and has some originality to it, but the acting is way to bland to make it anything near "best vampire movie".

For me, James Woods got put on the map from his guest appearance on The Simpsons.

And he is *beep* awesome in Vampires.

reply

I will give this a try.

Yes and yes.

I hadn't seen a good vampire movie in over a decade; this popcorn flick was just what the doctor ordered! Mindless and so much fun, I loved it. :)

One of the best vampire movies.

reply

I wouldn't say it's the best, movies like Interview with a Vampire, Let the Right One In and Let Me In are better to name just a few, but I do love it. I saw some review that summed it ut perfectly, it's crude, rude and nasty fun. It seems like a lot of people in general criticise the fact that it's not scary but I don't think it's intended to be a horror movie at all. Action/comedy maybe. James Woods is great and his strada chocolada line is the icing on the cake.

My eyes have seen the glory..

This movie sucked!

The stupid twang/twang western music was so overdone. James woods trying to be cool at all of 5 ft tall and 90lbs soaking wet.

They couldn't even get one of the better Baldwins...

The dialog was ridiculous!! Total trash!!

reply

Caprenter does his own music, which is his trademark, and a sort of simple, plodding, synthesizer rip off of Ry Cooder.

Carpernter fanbois love it, I think it's a bit of fun.

My problems weren't the music but James Woods... and a rubbish film.

It was okay. Lots of blood and decapitations don't make a movie great. 6/10.

reply

I'm watching it now. Actually, I'm shocked to see it rated so high! I gave it 3/10 and would have rated it lower without the performance of James Woods.

Minus the cheesy score and over-dramatic storytelling by Carpenter, it may squeeze out a 6/10

MrsPrimitiveBoomstick's bit of stuff

Ranks high with me if just for Wood's opening lecture to the Padre on what vampires are and are not, and their closing lines. Won't go anywhere near a discussion about best. Worst on a per-dollar-spent-to-make basis has to be the whole Twilight franchise.

One of the best.

I agree! The only thing I didnt like about this movie was "cheezy" Max Schell! No ... this is not the best "vampire" movie of all time, but ... it IS a darn good movie! At least in this movie, the vampires have FANGS !!!

"I'm gonna hunt for U, I WILL find U, and I will KILL U"! L.Neeson - TAKEN

OK younguns', watch 1931 Dracula with Bela Lugosi. Then let's discuss which vampire movie even comes close!

reply

I absolutely love the vampire film 'VAMP'.
I discovered it by mistake and had to track down the bluray.
Yes it's 80s camp etc but it such good fun & quite artistic too!
And it's also the idea behide Q.T's from dusk till dawn.

It's cheese, and camp, the funny bits aren't funny and the horror isn't scary... but what a cracking soundtrack & gritty film it is.

reply

Yeah, the problem was the viewer not the film... not James Woods being REALLY BADLY CAST... or casting ANY of the Baldwins, especially DANIEL being a death knell for any film... and your taste NOT being in your mouth...!

/Sarcasm off.

Try:

Let the Right One In
Shadow of the Vampire
Nosferatu (1922)
Nosferatu the Vampyre (1979)
Near Dark
Fright Night (1985)
The fearless Vampire Killers
Blade

Any of which are better than this

I couldnt rate this film very high.. to me it was only 6/10.

James Woods didnt fit the role of tough guy so every time he acted tough it broke my immersions!

I also didnt like the ending where he took the relic that the vampires been trying to get for 100's of years into the building for a very macho 1v1 IRL. So he ignores the fact that the vampire is seemingly invincible, is super fast and can chop a man in half with his hand. :D

It wouldve made more sense to have that van of theirs stocked up with explosives for situations like this and blew that whole building up without ever needing to go inside and they couldve done this for the other nests too..
that the vampires been trying to get for 100's of years

Some tend to take this film seriously. It has the same kind of humour like Big Trouble or They Live. Carpenter fans love it, other people don't really get it.

The box... you opened it, we came.
