Convrsation between Upman and Miller

Can someone explain what that was all about? The 500 to the 100? Was Upman talking about the amount needed to carry out the operation?

They had a thing about Tom Hanks’s background - what did he do before the army? None of them knew. So they said that whoever finds out what he did pre-Army will get $300.

During the scene you’re talking about, Hanks says he will tell Upman once the figure goes up to $500 (instead of $300) so that each soldier can get $100. Miller suggests they wait until the figure is $1000, but Hanks say nah

The convo had nothing to do with the amount of soldiers needed for the operation
