We in the West don't like to admit this but...

The Russians did do all the dirty work for us. Even after d Day most of the German troops were still tied up on the eastern front. And even George marshal admitted that if it hadn't been for the eastern front the western allies would proudly have needed twice as many soldiers to liberate Western Europe.

that's nice.

but if it hadn't been for the western allies tying down a million or so german troops, blockading germany from most natural resources, relentlessly bombing german production centers, and destroying much of the luftwaffe, the soviets would have certainly lost.

so there is that to consider.

reply

Yeah, because this is totally relevant to the film and not at all whataboutism lol xD

In the end everyone did their part from small guerrilla warfare to full on battles.

reply

Of course. Sometimes a few people doing an mundane but important job are doing something that contributed enormously to the Allied victory. The Norwegian resistance workers taking meteorology readings, from their information- and that from other people- RAF Meteorologist Group Captain Stagg was able to predict a lull in the weather on the morning of June 6th 1944 that enabled the invasion of Normandy to go through.
The war wasn't just fought by throwing thousands of men into the cauldron.

Trust me. I know what I'm doing.

reply

No Magnum, you're dead wrong. They did their share, but they did NOT do ALL the dirty work. We did our share too.

Germany would have beaten the Soviets in the fall of 1941 but winter coming early saved them.
