I was suprised at the depth..and expression. But then Ive only seen him in tarantino etc. He needs a decent lead for his talent..

He's mostly in action movies, but he's quite talented in dramas (Black Snake Moan, A Time to Kill, Coach Carter, etc.) I like his part in this movie, it was really toned down compared to his other roles.

I had a similar thought re-watching this yesterday, it's probably the last time he really put in this much effort into a role and a reminder that he is actually a strong actor aside from being entertaining.
P.S. This isn't a criticism of SLJ, most Hollywood actors start "mailing in performances" at some point (Pacino, DeNiro, etc.).
He looks damn sexy in this movie too.
shareI liked him in this also. The only time he seemed to approach his "angry black man" shtick, so prevalent in his films, was when he berated the hotel management about unwanted intrusions to his room.
I also liked the movie overall, although it's ambiguous and somewhat confusing at times. It resulted in the most in depth reading of comments on a movie's board I've done in a while.
