DO NOT WATCH THE DIRECTOR'S CUT

The theatrical cut is 10 times better than the dc.

reply

I'll watch it if I feel like it and decide for myself which version is better.

I liked both. But I can see why Mel decided it was too much. Especially the fight scene with his wife.

The director's cut is more gritty while the theatrical version is more enjoyable and lighter. Depending on your mood, both are great.

The director's cut is much closer to the source material which are the Parker novels by Richard Stark specifically THE HUNTER...so take your pick....I'm for the director's cut..pure and simple...It's much more "Parker"...more so then that ridiculous Jason Straham film,"PARKER" which totally misunderstood the character and concept...PAYBACK (Director's Cut) really had it down. The wife abuse was classic "Parker" and an remake of Lee Marvin's "POINT BLANK" which was in the original novel...So you either like the character as written or you don't..

Be as wise as a serpent and as harmless as a dove

The actual quote is, “Behold, I send you out as sheep among the wolves. Be wise as serpents, but innocent as doves.”

Is is REALLY too much to ask for you to quote Our Lord and Savior accurately?

reply

Where the hell can you watch the theatrical cut? It's a great movie ruined by the Hollywood morons that have effectively replaced the theatrical cut with the director's cut. You can't even get it on Vudu FFS. WTF is wrong with them?

reply

You can get the Kris Kristoferson version on DVD/Blu Ray.. The other version really is radically different then the theatrical version and the reason they did this is because they wanted a blend of LETHAL WEAPON in this movie with a touch of humor as opposed to the Ultra serious Director's Cut

As someone that loves unaltered director's visions when it comes to films, and as someone who was super excited to see the Director's Cut of this movie, I gotta say, I agree with the OP.

No one will ever say either version is the best Mel Gibson movie, but it is a Really Good Mell Gibson movie.

There are films where when the *spoilers* hero dies and it's understandable, poetic, moving and completes the film. Porter dying in the Director's cut felt out of place and immensely unsatisfying.

The theatrical has its problems, was the blue filter really necessary, but the way it ends is perfect for the story that lead up to it, you get Kris Kristofferson, and some really badass moments.

All in all I'd have to say that own both the versions. The theatical on VHS and the DC on DVD and I'd rather have the theatrical on Blu-ray.

My couple of pennies.

I like both versions.

I gotta agree with the OP. I LOVE the original theatrical version. Seen it countless times. So when I saw the Director's Cut, I really did not like it. I can see why Mel stepped in and took over and made the changes that he made. Those changes and additions made the movie much better in my opinion. (Just drive baby...)

Theatrical version is solid gold.
Directors cut sucks on goat ass.

I OWN TWO COPIES OF THIS FILM ON DVD...ONE OF EACH...BOTH ARE EXCELLENT.
