Where did Danielle get the dresses?

I am referring to the dresses she wears as Nicole de Lancret, besides her mother's. She wears a different one every time. Even Rodmilla and the stepsisters repeat dresses. Gustav helped her with the yellow one when she first goes to court. Did they borrow it from a dressmaker? I assume the blue dress that the gypsy steals came from the house, because Paulette and Louise helped her change. Did it belong to one of her stepsisters, along with the red one she wears before the party? Rodmilla snatches it during their confrontation in the hall. I may be overthinking this, but it is never really explained how Danielle finds things to wear.

The dresses Danielle wore as a countess belongs to her step sister, Marguerite. One example is, do you remember the dress that Marguerite refused to wear to the ball? It was the same dress Danielle wore when she and Henry went to the monastery. You can read this fact in the movie's trivia section.

Thank you!! I was wondering that too! I have seen this movie so many times, and they never tell us. That blue dress story seems to fit, but what about the yellow, and the red? The red looked different from the red one we see Margerite wear multiple times, like when she visits the Queen, and at the tennis match. That is my favorite of all her dresses. I wish the movie would have filled us in on the blue one.

The gold dress belonged to an old noblewoman that went to Gustave's master in order to have her portrait painted. The noblewoman left the dress at the studio so that the artist could finish the painting. You can see the portrait in the background when Danielle is getting dressed in the studio. You can also see the noblewoman during the scene where Danielle rescued Maurice. She originally had a line in that scene where she told her fellow courtiers "I'll have you know I have a dress just like hers."

The blue and red dress belonged to Marguerite. The dress Marguerite wore to tennis and tea with the queen was purple.

I purchased the movie with iTunes, so no features for me. :(

Nah. The movie didn't come with special features. I learned all this from the screenplay.

According to the novelization the red dress (which she wore to the ruins) was also "borrowed" from Gustav.
