I like them both. I think I'd choose Ever After, as I've loved it for almost 20 years now, but the new one has its own merits.
In Ever After, Danielle is a great heroine. I love that the stepfamily is given some humanity. You learn why the stepmother doesn't like her, one of the step sisters is shown to have a heart of kindness. They aren't just one-dimensional. I like that you get to know the Prince and that he has his own struggles as royalty and also feels caged in his responsibilities. The countryside is gorgeous as is the score. I like how they make the fairy tale seem "real" like how it really might have happened. Da Vinci made me laugh :)
The new one is gorgeous. It has a good message for little kids "have courage and be kind" and is a nice interpretation of the tale. I like how Kit explains his job as an "apprentice" which he is. I like how they both bonded over the death of a parent and the Prince very much loves his father. I can't find anything to dislike about it.
Might I add the Brandy/Whitney Houston version? It is a lot of fun and its a great Rodgers and Hammerstein musical. Casting is fun and lots of clever lines. I also loved it as a child. :)
