No one going to talk about...

the cool opening sequence?

The opening magnetizes you to the screen immediately, the voice over, the setting, sound effects, outfits, the acting, the drama, everything is just prefect.

It's remind me the opening of the first Lord of The Rings movie.

It gets a lot of heavy lifting done in less than seven minutes.

Well, you're talking about it!

The opening scene was brilliant really - it shows the Egyptian past and more importantly, gets all of the necessary story exposition out of the way quickly and in an entertaining way.

It's like the scene in Raiders where the two federales are questioning Indy and Brody about Marion's father Abner. They pretty much cover what the Ark is (I honestly thought going in was Noah's boat!), where it might be, what power it might hold, why Hitler wanted it, and what the Staff of Ra was about. Very entertaining scene as well.

It's opening scene that want you to jump into the screen and join the adventure. I didn't feel the same with Raiders. But you give great example of how summarizing the essence of the movie in just a few minutes, though it's not the opening scene as in The Mummy.

I may be in the minority, but overall, I think The Mummy is a much better movie than Indiana Jones.

Thats crazy and yes, you are not only in the majority, but the only one who prefers this to Indiana Jones. And the opening to the 1932 version is the more powerful opening scene. Did you notice the way Karloff slowly opens his eyes and lowers his arm, all while still in the casket?

Unfortunately, I haven't had the chance to see this version yet, but your description has definitely made me want to watch it.

I 100% prefer The Mummy over Indiana Jones.

It is a nice opening.

Good opening will carry a whole movie. You do it right, doesn't really matter what you do for the next 90 minutes. Bit of a lost art these days.
