In 1999, Brendan Fraser's The Mummy was a spectacular blockbuster sensation, but with every sequel movie and reboot, the franchise got worse and worse.

For the readers, the 10 ways are:

1. The Mummy Franchise Became Increasingly Reliant On Bad CGI
2. The Mummy Sequels Prioritized Spectacle Over The Relationships Between The Characters
3. Rachel Weisz Was Recast For The Mummy 3
4. The Mummy 3 Tried To Set Up Alex O'Connell As The New Hero
5. The Mummy 3 Left Out Fan Favorite Character Ardeth Bay
6. Injuries Caused Brendan Fraser To Step Away From The Franchise
7. The Mummy Sequels Became Action Comedies Without The Horror Element
8. The Long Gap Between The Mummy 2 & The Mummy 3
9. Tom Cruise's Mummy Reboot Was Too Dark
10. The Mummy Movies Became Too Formulaic

Very good points.

Maria Bello delivered a dull performance as the clumsy and nerdy Evelyn.

CGI in the first movie was just in the right dosage.

The relationships between the characters contribute significantly to the movie's entertainment value. The adorable brother and sister (great casting, you can really believe they are sibling in real life too), Benny and O'Connell, engage in amusing little fights, and the rivalry between the American crew and Connell's crew adds an extra layer of interest.

One of the most noteworthy aspects, often overlooked by fans, is the incorporation of horror elements, particularly the outstanding opening scene.

Thanks for laying those out; I was not going to follow a link.

I only watched the first two After that came The Scorpion King and then a gap before The Mummy 3. I was interested until I heard Weisz wasn't going to return. No point in watching at that point because the character dynamics were the best part.

The first two are great movies, but even the second wasn't quite where the first one was. I'd argue that the reincarnation plot was the first crack in the armour. It was a minor crack, but a crack, nevertheless. Now, I will say this: I rewatched The Mummy Returns a couple years ago and I was reminded at how well they actually managed to introduce a young cast member - Alex - into the film without making him obnoxious.

The first film took action, comedy, and horror and blended it together *perfectly*. It was underrated when it came out and I'm glad that it seems to be remembered these days with love.

Yeah... We would've all been better off had this remained a one-shot
