On this date--21 August--in 1998, Stephen Norrington's BLADE first hit movie screens. Starring Wesley Snipes as the titular vampire-hunting hero, the film was a big hit, nearly tripling its budget, despite an R-rating that conventional wisdom suggested would hurt its box office. Besides just being a great movie, BLADE is a milestone, in that it's success was the kick-off of the comic-book movie craze that, for better or worse, has continued ever since--for 26 years now.

It has one of the best entrances of a main character ever.

It was one of the few DVDs I owned in the early days of DVD. I watched it so many times I can quote most, if not all, of the dialog.
