wasn't it the fact that maxine loved her the way she is? she loved her in her own body, i think that's when she knew no sex change was needed.

Lotte never really wanted to change sex, she just felt a crazy experience and better self love while being John Malkovich than she feels about herself. So she was a bit confused.
