Did Aerosmith's Don't Want to Miss a Thing retire the Power Balled genre?

My granddad says it did.

His hypothesis is that it was the culmination of years of efforts and basically stands unrivalled as the greatest rock ballad of all time.

He does wistfully say though that it sadly pretty much killed the genre, and no one else has even tried since, as it would be a worthless enterprise trying to reach its level.

Is he right?

I think Creed killed the Power Ballad. They were the last band that actually did them and they were hated as a band.
